Following on from a previous post (which i cant find  )... I was shopping the other day and noticed a shop selling 'how to examine your breasts' DVD and glove, so if any ones interested in finding out about it (i know it can be embaressing) there is things like that available :) Im definatly going to buy one when i go shopping next it was only £2. Cant remember what shop it was though.

I never ever check, I just keep telling myself it'll never happen to me so I don't need to.

I really should but I wouldn't have a clue what to look out for so thanks for this :)

Its pretty simple, just raise your right arm above your head and use your left hand to check your right breast, and then visa versa. Feel around the whole breast including the armpit area. Your looking for any unusual lumps, and if you do it regularly....I do mine once or twice a month....then you will soon get to know how they feel and be able to spot anything unusual.

There ya go, thats saved ya 2 quid

Well, it sound simple enough so I have no excuse

I can't be the only one who doesn't check??

I'm the same kirsty  I only check when they hurt for some reason and I get all worried about it.

I'm guilty of not checking :? I'm sure DH would notice if there was anything different

My mum has had breast cancer and had to have a masectomy (sp).
I went to the doctors a while ago with a lump in my boob and she sent me away and told me to take oil of evening primrose oil! I was meant to go back but the lump has gone. I thought I would be sent for a scan.

the glove thing was from lloyds...............I've got one, I think I even wrote it in the other thread!

I haven't used it yet  but it doesn't just tell you what to do but apparently its easier to feel any changes with the glove. I hate doing mine, I really should do it more. I had a smear a few weeks back and admitted I rarely did it and the nurse suggested I get my mum to check   :rotfl:

I do mine all the time, mainly because my boobs have grown soooo much since being pg and i love um.....lol.
Never had any before.

If you don't know what to feel for I would recommend going to the nurse at your GP practice (it's what I did when I found my lump) they are really nice and helpful

Also there are a fair few online websites with explanations and pictures of how to self examine etc.

Always worth a quick online search.

I check mine about twice a month and tbh its been near on impossible to say they feel the same now as they did 3 or 6 months ago. They are so much more lumpy and large and its hard to know if there is something actually wrong. Having read up on it, the changes seem to fall within the normal changes during pregnancy, so I am not going to worry yet.

Not trying to turn you gals on or anything but I find my boobs easier to examine when they are really soapy

Seriously its miles easier because you're fingers just slide over rather than feeling a bit pokey and umcomfortable :)

Hehe better hope my OH doesn't read this post. He'll be volunteering to check mine then

I always check mine and have done for ages whenever I have a bath or shower. I was glad that I did as I noticed a lump 18 months ago and it meant that I could get it seen to quickly- well that was the theory... In my PCT I am not in the 'at risk' group and had to wait 7 weeks for a needle biopsy and then another 8 weeks after that for an ultrasound scan before getting the all clear. I thought this was a shocking amount of time to have to wait with no reassurance or support offered. Just because you are under 30 does not mean that a) you cannot get breast cancer and b) you do not worry yourself sick about the possibility of having it! With anything the earlier something is caught the better so get feeling those boobs!

I check mine about twice a month because I suffered from breast pain for a while. I even went to the doctor who said it was fine and told me if you feel a lump like a hard knuckle sticking out then to get it checked.
