Right to be quite precise here I'm just wondering how everybody copes financially cause of the crunch and things?

I get £138 a week to budget out of so here it goes

Around £50 a week goes out on direct debits

£20-£25 a week on electric

£5 a week on gas (everything in my flat is electric except my cooker)

£10 a week on water (Ridiculous)

Then the rest is for food and anything else I may need (nappies, wipes, clothes)

OMG - you are so organised knowing how much you pay for everything each week. I haven't much of a clue how much I spend - most things go out every quarter so I put whatever I can aside each month.
It is begining to sink in that with LO on the way things will get much tougher.

It doesnt always work out like that believe me! Lol but on average thats what I spend :) I get paper bills and I pay them as they come in when I can not necessarily on time, but hey they get their money within a couple of weeks so they cant moan x x

Here goes-£50-£70 food shopping depending on how much OH gets paid, £5 gas, £5 electric, £40 away for bills at end of month (water, rent as we're still receiving housing benefit and council tax benefit and tv licence) and that wipes us out.

You seem very organised x x

I have to be otherwise the money gets spent and we can't pay bills! It's taken a lot for me to get like this-I do spreadsheets now to track the money! Lol x

yeah very organised!! I know how many outgoings we have every month. OH and I both transfer money after payday to our joint account and all the bill go out as direct debit from there. We also do our food shop out of that and keep it between 30-50 per week depending on whether we need a 'big shop' lol

Im quite a creative cook so I make things stretch :)

THen whatevers left is whatevers left. Which in my case is usually nothing :wall:

Awww Tiny

I agree its very hard to budget and it took me some time to get into a routine and not paying things then I worked out a plan and it works x x

I dont like to talk amounts really but since I gave up working we've started to get organised budget wise. Hubby gets paid and any other amounts go in (child benefit etc.) and then we move what's needed to cover the bills, mortgage etc to one account which has the direct debits set up to it. Then we draw out what's left and that covers food and diesel for the car. We draw that out weekly in cash so that we know what we are spending. Before when we were both working we were pulling in quite a bit between us and didnt budget at all. We must have wasted so much. This way we know where were up to and I dont waste money :)

You sound like a very organised lady aswell Mervs Mum :D Dont expect anyone to right out amounts if they dont want to anyway :D x

We are much better organised now and I like how it makes me appreciate what we have :)

i also think when you see tenners getting handed over it registers with you more than when you just had your card over iykwim :)

Yeah, its so nice to know where your moneys going and stuff isnt it :) x

My Mat pay has just started (I opted for 9 equal payments) and since our tenants have been unable to pay the rent (now being evicted) we sat down and did our monthly spreadsheet just the other night. I can't say we've got a routine as such but we have everything accounted for in terms of direct debits etc then our budget for food and cars. It's so easy to fritter money away on nothing!!

I totally agree megsmeadow - the direct debits I have coming out are mainly for debts that I have occurred through catalogue shopping for appliances no highstreet store would give me credit because the previous tenants blacklisted the address and I had no other option luckily they should be paid off soon!! :-D

I was paid all my maternity pay in one lump sum - which is crap as money just burns holes in ALL my pockets! lol!
My OH's wage covers all the household bills and his fuel - I give him 'x' amount to cover his mobile and car insurance - then what i've left pays my mobile and car insurance, petrol and does the food shop. We're hoping to start living on next to nothing now so that it's not so much of a shock when LO arrives

Good idea Hun -- you'll be surprised when LO arrives what you do and don't need silly things like branded nappy cream lol x

I've transferred all my maternity pay to OH - he's better with cash than me - i'm good when I know what i've got for the month but having 39 weeks pay sat in my account just wasn't a good idea!

I'm not much for branded stuff anyway - we have our little luxuries now which will just be replaced by nappies so i'm hoping our cost of living doesn't change TOO much! lol

Hmmm yeah not the best of ideas, lol! Nor me, I like my odd luxury though :D you'll get used to it x
