I bought the Phillips Satin thingy Epilator yesterday- the one with the ice pack (great description I know!)

I am fed up with shaving and haven't got the money to wax (I wouldn't dare do it myself!)

Can the ladies who epilate give me some tips and advice please!

you crazy fool! Epilators

good luck hun  you're braver than me!!! xx

I've used one on and off for years. The one thing I would say if you can is only do a bit at a time at first. Once you have done it a few times the hair comes through softer and and at different rates so it's fine then but at 1st when it's all stubbly from shaving and lots of them all the same length it really hurts. Also if your doing you bikini line wear knickers cos it can grab the hair that you want to keep and really hurt

I love my epilator!! I have sensitive legs and if I shave then sit on grass, or the beach or most anywhere I get a rash on my legs for the first couple of days after this time the stubbles growing back anyway but if I epilate they're red for a hour or two and then fine til they next need doing! The first time hurts alot I wont lie to you but if you can persist past it then its so worth it your hair grows back fairer finer and patchy (I have patches now that never seem to grow back) and after a few goes it takes hardly any time to do it. I have the older version of that epilator and have had it about 2/3 years and its still going great! Definately put the cool pack in the fridge long enough to cool down before epilating your will be grateful of that the first time, I find if I pull the skin taunt it doesn't sting as bad and the first time when it hurts I only do alittle bit then have a brief break then do alittle bit more, also once you have gotten past the first time try not to shave again if you can help it cause it will be like starting all over again! Good luck!

Is it the purple one that costs about £60+ ?? if so, that's the one my OH bought me for my birthday - i had never heard of an Epilator before and he tried it on my leg - by christ i dint half scream!!! it is sooo painful - i use the razor bit of it but i get 'why dont you use the Epilator? that's what i bought it you for' all the time now

why is it soo bleedin' painful??

OH said i could use it 'down there'

I've never had the guts to try epilation- waxing is painful enough!!
they look terrifying

They sound it too

the day i got it and OH tried it on my legs, i told him how painful it was so he tried it on his chest hair - By god you should have seen his face - he has a nice 'bald' patch on his chest now :rotfl:

oooh this is the epilator i got for xmas!!! its really good, was dead painful for a start, but once you get used to it, the pain is ok

i just use it for my underarms and va-jayjay, is a bit too hard to reach my legs at the mo!

id say exfoliate well beforehand, and once u start using it more + more, the hair does sem to grow in slower! yay!! :cheer: xxxxxxx

I love mine!

I use it on my underarms and legs if I am going somewhere and can't get waxed.

You do get used to the pain!

I've got an ice one too, but I find the ice pack too footery, so just use it without.

You'll get your best results after a bath or shower!

am going to do it tonight- been waiting for the hairs to grow! taking evie swimming tomorrow so hope i can get through the pain! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

just tried a patch on my leg because you lot have scared me so much- it wasn't that bad at all!

when i use an epilator, or wax, the hair grows back pretty much straight away.

i think it snaps the hair rather than plucking it- i get all the pain but none of the lasting effects

anyone else get that or is it just me????

i think epilating is less painful than waxing but when i do either i ALWAYS end up with in-growing hairs :(

so i end up shaving instead, but i've got pcos and have to shave my legs twice a day if i want to expose them. urgh :wall: :wall: :wall:

I epilated for a while as I was fed up shaving. I foud it really effective.
I found it got less painful the more I did it, but it's worse when AF is approaching.
The downside is it does just snap some hairs rather than pulling them out. Then they get ingrown.

When I was turning 30 I decided to get my legs waxed as I had never got it done before, and I haven't looked back. The epilator is lying in a drawer now. I like not having to bother about it myself, and the woman i go to is removing my ingrown hairs by poking about with a needle  which isn't very nice but it gets rid of them.

ive got that one!!! ive only used it once and i had to do my legs over a space of 3 days, im such a woos. but i was really happy with the resuls!! i really want to do it again but havent plucked up the courage lol :rotfl:

i have an epilator but i cant use it on my underarms....I DARENT!...lol its ok on legs though, i get a few speckles and i use it on the fastest speed setting too as then it doesnt take long so i dont have to suffer too much.

ooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
i would take some painkillers and have a coupla glasses of wine first!
although i may be a wuss i thought i was tough til i went into labour!
wonder if they do epidurals for epilation? :rotfl:
