Have anyone here any experience with epidural, does it make u feel aboslutely nothing or what could one expect to feel during labour if had epidural? x

couldnt feel a thing to be honest from what I remember xxx

With mine I had the patient controlled one not sure if thats different to others but you press a button every time you need it topped up...I could feel pressure but no pain at all... sat reading a book for the second half of my labour lol xx

It took the pain away completely, and lowered my blood pressure which was the reason I had it, but I couldn't feel to push and J &I got into a spot of bother, he was eventually born using forcepts after failed ventouse, there are pro's & cons, at the time I was glad is had it, but after I was sure it had contributed to my difficult labour.
I had pre eclampsia though so it was never going to be plain sailing, don't let me put you off x

Mine stopped most of my pain but i did carry on getting 1 contraction pain down below which was not as painful as the original all over ones, and then it helped me time how far along i was and when i needed to push. Deffo worth it x

It didn't do anything for me & i was left with a hell of alot of back pain after it. I wasn't gonna have one at first but was advised to coz i was induced.

I felt no pain at all, just pressure when they first gave me the epidural. Then when they topped it up I couldn't even feel pressure - I had to be told when to push as I couldn't feel the contractions at all.

It was best thing I did ! Wasn't scary I was begging for it lol but took away contraction feeling for me xx

Are you still fully able to push? I know I pushed my hardest with both girls to stop the pain... But with no pain I'm worried I won't be able to push as hard...

I'm going to be honest , mine didnt work :( had it topped up twice .. nothing . Ended up having a spinal block as I had to have forceps and I ended up finding it difficult to push and the recovery was slow . I had no epi this time and was up and walking almost straight after .Ok yes pushing did hurt a lot ! But I was pleased I didnt have it x

If it works to its full potential then yeah you should be totally numb down there & not feel any contractions, mabye like a slight tug in your stomach, and its very hard to tell how hard you are pushing. I got mine too early on I think & it had worn off by the hard bit. Epidural is one of things they give you for a section.

I think that's one of the things putting me off an epidural, not being able to push enough.. That and a catheter!!!

Yeah plus you cant move from your bed either, so it gets very uncomfortable, I was lying for nearly 13 hours without getting up.

You cant get up after birth either, u need a bed bath.

I could feel to push just about with initial epi but when I went to theatre incase of c section they topped up then I couldn't feel to push I had to guess !
I was lucky in the fact I had him at 7.16pm that I slept through the night and it wore off. Also u get a catheter which hurt me when they put in but was great so u don't have to move it's not as scary as u think!! xx

Thanks ladies :) just the thought of it makes me cringe :( and my sister said it hurt her alot :( suppose everyone is different really.. I remember promising myself after Ellie that if I had another child I'd defo have an epidural.. I just don't want it to be a selfish decision if u know what I mean.. Risking back pain (worse than I have already!) prolonged labour.. Less mobile during and after birth, possible assisted delivery.. etc etc.. Just so I'm pain free.. My mum is dead against it and always makes me feel bad for wanting one.. I think if I'm relaxed during labour the baby will be too..
There are pros and cons to everything and it seems the only pro of an epidural is pain free labour..
