Hi just wondering what is going on with me as my breasts at time will feel really heavy and uncomfortable and hard! Is this what being engorged is? It's ok when lo has fed but not comfy for me until she does is there something I'm doing wrong that's causing this??

Also I leak quite a lot which is so frustrating when I have to change my bra during the day. Will this happen the whole time I bf as I thought I might at least get to a point where I wouldn't need breastpads constantly. I will feed and the other breast will leak but not always in a situation where collecting it is possible. :-/

Please any advice for me I would appreciate thanks!

Oh my lo is ebf, been trying bottle as was at a funeral Xmas eve n needed a just in case of emergency supply but as of yet she refused! Any tips there or is it purely down to perseverance?

It sounds like you have a lot of milk? Has baby just gone through a growth spurt? There is normally a big growth spurt around 12 weeks so baby could be prepping up for that. Normally heavy hard boobs can indicate engorgement which usually only occurs when your milk comes in and then if you haven't fed for a while.

I had problems with engorgment whenever baby would skip a feed and sleep through . It would last a day or two then baby would adjust his feeding again. I also leaked up till 4-5 months. It did settle down when he was older and not happen as frequently. I would just keep feeding on demand and hand express for comfort if your engorged and baby not due a feed. It will likely settle x

When I have this (quite alot as am expressing) I relieve it by hand expressing (usually try a bit if warmth to soften hard bits as well.. Wheat bag against breast)

I too while breastfeeding leak on the other breast like a tap...always have to have at hand a muslin to cath flow...otherwise it leaks on Imogens baby grows.

Thanks tiggy good to know I'm not alone there and that it might improve soon.
Think she is having a growth spurt yes as been feeding lots more but sleeping longer at night. Will just persevere as long as it's not indicative of any problems then I'm happy. Thank you

Kaa - I'm exactly the same. My lo is 14 weeks and my boobs constantly leak and I don't know about you but spray everywhere - the letdown is ridiculous to the extent that I when too much for lo and he pulls off it sprays everywhere. My lo has started sleeping through and I regularly wake up soaked through - I've taken to using 4 breast pads per cup at night and my boobs are hard and uncomfortable but once lo has fed they're ok. I think as long as your not in pain it's normal. Mine do leak in day but I don't need to change bra. I had some support from a breastfeeding support group locally and there's a really good group on Facebook which anyone can join and some of the questions others ask have been really useful to me so may be worth a look. It's a closed group so don't think anyone can see what you post in terms of Facebook friends. Just search TLC Mummies BF support x
