When i saw the MW yesterday, i noticed on my notes she has put LO down as 3/5 on the engagement part. Obviously there is a bit to go yet, but does how soon you engage have any bearing on how soon you go into labour?
I was 3/5 engaged last week at 36wks. I queried this with my consultant. He explained that this meant 3/5ths above brim and that when you are 2/5 you are in established labour so you have less to go than you thought!
I don't think it means you will go into labour sooner but may increase the speed of your labour as baby doesn't have as far to go if that makes sense. It means that you are definately in a better position than some people who reach 40wks and aren't at all engaged.
But baby can sometimes only actually engage once labour has actually started i.e Head doesn't have to engage for you to go into labour, am waffling now so will stop here! xx
yes, but don't forget, baby can engage and then disengage and back again before you're due!
I am 3/5 engaged too, but I don't think it has a bearing on when or how long labour will be.
sorry!
Midwife said that Francesca's "fully engaged" and that's what she's put in my notes... Said she could 'just' feel bubs head and couldn't move it at all... What d'ya recon that means?? xx
ohhhh Heppi - I am not fully sure but I would imagine it means you are also 3/5ths engaged as you are engaged but not in labour? The consultant was clear that you are 2/5ths engaged when in established labour - which is the next stage from being 3/5ths....
Might be worth asking your MW hun as I am really only guessing...
Just had a nose online (the dreaded google!!) and apparently fully engaged is just as it sounds... Her head is right down in my pelvis... Like 1/5 or 0/5 as it would be I'll double check with consultant next week, but x
