Anyone who uses a breast-pump, what would you say are the best? Electric or Hand?

I personally prefered the hand pump - the electric one hurt me - I just couldnt get it on right and it "sooked" to hard - I felt like a cow getting milked!!

S. xx

Hand, go at ur own pace and can go the same rhythm as ur LO's sucking

I agree, definitely hand pump. As Jacob was premature, the SBCU lent me an electronic one so I have experience with both but with the hand one, it is less painful and you can collect more milk quickly by using longer 'squeezes'!

Thanks guys, so far looks like hand but I'll see what others say before I buy one. :)

I suspect the decision will also be influenced by how often and for what you are planning on using it. I have a hand one, this was TBH based on price, I wasn't planning on (and don't) use it a lot so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. If I was intending to use it more I may have been tempted by an electric on, though saying that I am reasonably happy with my hand one and I haven't tried and electric one.

I only ever had my hand pump and I think its great. I only pump 4oz usually for my DH to feed a bottle in the evening, if I needed to pump much more (if I was going to work for example) I would try an electric. Saying that I have hand expressed 3 x 4oz today with no problem but some people say they get hand ache.

Thanks for rthe input. I am only planning on BF Jade during the night for my benefit and for convenience as I don't feel comfortable with BF in front of anyone therefore having to go out of the way into hiding if I'm out to feed her so will be using it more often than not. Sounds like electric may be my best bet then maybe.

Claire wherever i go I ask where I can go and feed Leorah on private! The only place I feed in front of others is at my mother and baby group and I still cover all up with a muslin cloth :)
