How efficient/quick are electric hobs? I use gas at the mo. but when we move house we will have to use gas cylinders as the village isn't connected to the mains gas, so wondered if it would be better to get an electric one?

Ta :D

It could be more convinient for you to use electric hobs. I was raised using them, but a few years ago my parents and i moved to a house with gas hobs and an electric oven, and i love that combination! Gas hobs heat things up so fast, wherease electric hobs take ages to heat AND cool down, so you can't stand things on them for ages after using them (I know you shouldn't anyway, but i find it a very convinient place to put plates sometimes when serving, lol) I love electric ovens tho cause although they take time to heat i find they cook things better (especially if its a fan oven). Plus is you have an elctric oven with gas hobs you can have them in different places (my parents' oven is half way up a wall instead of a cupboard. there's a much bigger cupboard in place of where the oven would usually be under the hobs)

We have electric and there fine. We had Gas at mums and I must say I prefered it because you can adjust the flame i.e the heat accordingly and it takes effect straight away. With the electric ones, they heat up quick enough if you have it on a high heat but then take ages to cool, so say if you put our on 7, then the water boils, and you put it down to 4, it takes a few minutes for it to cool back down so keeps boiling instead of simmering.

It does take AGES for them to cool, we have burnt loads of t-towels etc and hands lol

I'm thinking of getting a dietrich (sp?) oven as the hobs on that (I am told!) are fab, don't take long to heat up, & you can even put a piece of kitchen roll on the hob and cook on top of that  the only prob is they are so expensive.

I got a electric one when i bought mine purely to keep my toddler (at the time now 10  ) safe, she had a habit of wanting to cook :wall:
It was handy being able to turn it off at the wall and know it wouldnt matter which knobs shes pushed, turned or flicked she couldnt start a fire! :moon:
