Just found out my baby is breech at 37 weeks. I've been booked for an ECV on Tuesday (where they try to manually turn baby) as I really don't want a c section. Just wondering if anyone has had a successful ECV procedure? Dr Google is worrying me with risks so hoping for some stories from experience x

They tried it with me but baby wouldn't turn. It was quite painful as well. I tried everything else I could think of to try to get any to move but nothing worked! I do know people that have had successful ones though x

My sister had 3 attempts at ECV with no luck. Know this isn't helpful to you! Have you considered alternatives such as a chiropractor? They do something called the Webster technique which anecdotally is quite successful. I've no first hand experience with this but have had lots of help from chiros for other things x

Beauandhamish did you have a csection in the end then? What was your recovery like if you did?

Candy I have been doing some reading tonight and saw about chiropractors and I do occasionally go to one so might call tomorrow and see if they can help x

Yeah deffo worth it rose. I'd imagine it's maybe a speciality thing but if yours can't do it hopefully they can recommend someone. Are you spending plenty of time on all fours etc? xx

Found out at exactly 40 weeks my second was breech (it wasn't diagnosed by the community midwife) and had a section 2 days later. They didn't advise me to try turning as said it was unlikely to be successful as baby so big and also that they often just flip back again if they've been in that position for a long time. The section was fine and I recovered really well, it was actually much better than my recovery from a forceps delivery with my first. I'm opting for a section again this time. Hoping they manage to turn bubs if that's your preference X

Yes had a c-section. I won't lie recovery for me was horrendous. Ended up with sepsis and back in hospital for 5 weeks on hdu. Obviously it's a very rare thing to happen, most people I have spoke to had great elective c-sections! Will be having another this time but obviously hopeing for an easier time this time round x

Hoping for no 2 that's really interesting because I had a forceps delivery with my first so good to know that in comparison if it comes to it then it might not be so bad. I think my main concern is I have a two and a one year old that still require a lot of lifting in and out of things and I'm not sure my OH could be home enough to help with those things in the first few weeks. I guess I'll see what happens on Tuesday though. Baby was head down at a scan at 33 weeks so has turned since then, which I guess is unsual but maybe means he might still have room to turn back again. My second baby was 10lb 1oz though and I'm already measuring 40w bump wise but scans estimate much smaller so no real idea if this one is going to be as big x

Sorry I can't be of any help as I have no experience with either. Just wanted to wish good luck for Tuesday! xx

I had an evc with my daughter at 37 weeks. Found it uncomfortable but not painful. They monitor the baby all through the procedure had no problems. She stayed head down and was born 40 weeks and 1 day.

How big was she Carly? I'm expecting a big one so wondering if they find it easier to turn smaller babies x

Thanks Carly good to know - my second baby was 10lb 1oz but so far scans are estimating slightly less for this one but still over 9lbs at birth so good to know they turned a baby at that time that would have been similar sort of size to me x

I only really needed help for a few days and was up and about very quickly. We actually went on a wee holiday two weeks after I had him! I've got a lot of problems from my forceps delivery so was quite happy to have a section. An elective is a pretty calm experience and it was 1000% times better than my first delivery. I also felt so much better to not be completely exhausted after delivery, as that hit me hard first time. There's no way I'd risk a delivery like my first again personally. X

ECV was successful yesterday! Had a bit of drama afterwards as they sent me home then called me back because they realised they hadn't studied my monitoring afterwards enough and probably shouldn't have let me leave so soon. But further monitoring put their minds at rest that he wasn't distressed.

It was an uncomfortable procedure but not really painful, the best way I can describe it was just a huge amount of pressure and a feeling afterwards like someone had taken a bit of your body and put it on the wrong way - so like my leg was on backwards or something. I could be clearly feel the difference in where baby was so it took a few minutes for that to feel normal. I'd certainly do it again if it was necessary and have already checked that should be turn back round they would attempt it again for me. So pleased I don't have to have a section! X

Thank you - so far so good but he hasn't engaged still x

There is plenty of time for him to engage. Try to relax, what will be will be and yours and your babies safety is the most important. If he comes out of the sunroof or of you have a vaginal delivery it will be the right thing at the time. Xxxxx
