When would you feel confident having a gender scan? The place I went for my reassurance scan do it from 16wk however I have seen where people have been to various places and been told 1 gender to be told opposite at 20wk scan? Last time I waited till 18wk as we were on holiday just before but this time I am desperate to know so counting the days till 16wk but am I taking a huge gamble at 16wl 1day for them to get it right?

My honest opinion (and what I went by for my own scan) was that if at my gender scan they said I was having a girl, I would wait until 20 weeks to confirm it. I was told at 17+5 it was a boy and announced it and was happy to as I spotted the gender before the scanner haha! I just had it confirmed again this week. I think most places will tell you how sure they are of the gender. Xx

Oh also I've noticed some places are more expensive at 16 weeks. I had booked mine for my husbands birthday as a surprise for him. Xx

16 weeks is the earliest you can have them done privately. I had mine at 16 weeks and they was right, I used baby bond as did some friends x

i think i was 16+4 but i would wait if you can till your 20 weeks.

boys are easy to sex, its when they are girls, they can sometimes come out boys!

I've had 2 scans at 17 weeks which have both been correct with gender (well correct with my youngest son... I'm still waiting for my little girl to arrive and hoping a willy doesn't appear ha, but 20 week scan said same gender as 17 week one and I think have to be pretty unlucky to have 2 wrong scans!) I was the same though and thought 16 weeks was a bit early so I waited that extra week. I suppose it's the scan company's reputation at risk if they get it wrong so they must be petty confident in being able to tell at 16 weeks otherwise they wouldn't offer that early. Your sonographer Will also be able to tell you how confident they are in the result and whether they have a clear view or not, with my current pregnancy he told me he was 100% sure as had such a clear view. So exciting! Good luck xx

ETA - I know someone who recently had a scan at 27 weeks and was told wrong gender! So it's not guaranteed even by waiting xx

I just had mine at 16+6 I hope they're right cos I've bought loads of pink stuff xD.

I do have someone on FB, they told her it was a boy then she had her 20w scan and it was a girl xD x

i never bought anything blue till i had my 20 week to confirm my 16 week haha

Haha. Well I hope they don't change mine, cos everyone has said she looks like a boy, and ive said boy all the way through...

Haha, I said to hubby after we left the scan place what it's a boy with a small penis?! X

I had a private scan at just over 16 weeks. The company we went to say 97% sure and if not they invite you back again a bit later on to see if they can tell better. Our little one was in an awkward position and the lady spent a long time looking and changing scanners until she said. She did several checks from all different angles, so I think they are quite thorough. Our local hospital won't tell you, so we haven't had any confirmation at any subsequent scans, so as to whether they are right or wrong we have to wait until they are born. Most of the stuff I've bought is fairly unisex as that is just my personal taste, but we do have a few items that would be more suited for a boy now. We also haven't told anyone we know.

If they can be 97% id be quite happy....will do my research. The annoying bit is Easter falls right in the middle and they are closed for a week so I am so indecisive on what to do. Can either go on 16w 1d or have to wait till 18w 1d due to child at preschool and the place being open :-/

Most places stay open over the holiday, and allow you to take a child with you :) x

There's a place in Manchester that does from 15 weeks I was tempted to book but I just couldn't trust it to be 100% accurate that early

Oh Peanut that is adorable! I've found it really easy not to tell! To be fair I think I could actually have kept being pregnant quieter for longer too (and some people still don't know haha). I like making people guess and seeing what they think, plus there is a little bit of me that knows there is a tiny chance it isn't correct.

I've always had a scan just after I turned 16 weeks - with my daughter it was so obvious, there was just nothing between her legs - looked like a barbie lol. Both my boys it was very obvious there were boy bits there! X

I had my scan done yesterday and I'm only 17 weeks along. I'm hoping they got the right genders for my babies. They're saying twin boys. So, I hope I'm right.

I went at 16 weeks 5 days and had it confirmed at my 20 week scan on Friday. I also went o babybond. But I do agree that boys are a bit more certain!
