need help to answer the following case study

You have just started a role as a Postnatal and Infant Care Practitioner with 2-week-old Jessie. Jessie’s mother, Mary, is a first time mum and very determined to breast feed exclusively. Unfortunately breast-feeding isn’t as easy as Mary had hoped and needs your support.

Jessie does not seem to be gaining weight at the expected rate which is concerning Mary. Mary tells you that she is demand feeding currently, but each time she feeds it hurts her breasts and she feels Jessie isn’t getting enough milk. She doesn’t want to give up breast-feeding but needs your help.

Breast feeding is hard and not as natural or easy as you would imagine. Can you put her in touch with a local lactation consultant or breastfeeding support group? She needs encouragement, it does hurt even for the first 6 weeks even if the latch is correct and some how it falls in to place!
