Lots of questions this evening ladies!

Ds1 is 16 months old and still has a dummy. I wanted him to be off it by 1 but with ds2 imminent I thought it might be too much in one go. I was planning on the dummy fairy or Santa taking it away at 18 months (Christmastime) as he'll be able to understand it a bit more but he's become glued to it in the last week. He'll actively ask to go into his bedroom to get his dummy and comforter out the cot and then have both all day when he normally only has it for sleep. I don't know whether it's because he's teething, he's in a leap or the sleep regression (I think he's currently got all 3) but I don't know whether to leave him with it for comfort or take it off him now so it's not even harder in a few months. What would you do?

As I said, I think he's goin through the 16/18 month sleep regression - he doesn't tend to nap during the day and is usually awake for an hour or two every night talking to himself, playing, etc. Some nights he'll spend that time crying or lamenting. Does this sound like the sleep regression? If so, when does it end?!?!

Your thoughts are much appreciated ladies, my sleep deprived brain just can't focus on such basic predicaments.

Kumber we are in exactly the same predicament. Zac is 14 months, really relies on his dummy a lot of late - he does have a fair few teeth en route as he didn't have any until 10 months, so this has held off us taking his dummy away. But now i'm wondering if there is ever a right time? He is crying at least twice a night - not sure if this is the start of regression or because of his teeth to be honest.

We've decided we are going to leave the dummy situation, but try to ration it where possible and then take it away in perhaps another 4-6 months. I've been considering just pricking them when the time comes so the suck doesn't work, in the hope he'll get bored with it!

Will be following this thread with interest, as I have zero help/advice!

My sons 19 months and wouldn't have a clue about Santa taking his dummy away. If you want that approach you may have to wait untill next Christmas. As it stands - you have a new baby ( like me ) just let him have It when absolutely necessary and gently wean off

Also sleep breeds sleep. Try to get him down for a nap? He may sleep better at night - x
