Does anyone's LO use a dummy? If so has it affected bf? When F is awake he is unsettled all the time unless he is feeding, wondering if a dummy will help or will he just get better as he gets older?

Any advise appreciated, thank u xxx

I will be watching too as M loves sucking. He is trying to suck his fingers too which i dont want.
I think nipple confusion is rare but have to admit i am scared of dummies, DS1 never took a dummy so have no idea

C had a dummy from 3wks to 6ms but I expressed for the first eight weeks. Once his tie was snipped the dummy didn't interfere with feeding xx

My friend breast feeds her lo and he had a dummy from birth, she's had no problems with nipple confusion. He does have a slight tongue tie as well but it doesn't seem to affect feeding.

In the UK dummies aren't recommended until 4 weeks if bf, due to risk of nipple confusion - but in reality this is pretty rare.

The US advice on SIDS prevention recommends dummies from birth.

My LO had hers from very early (few days) for SIDS prevention and never had problems. X

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

My daughter has had a dummy since about 4 weeks and she's exclusively breast fed. We've had no problem with confusion-it just took her a few goes to get the hang of the dummy! I caved because she was starting to use me as a dummy, sucking for comfort and after being up literally all night for 2 nights running I thought if give it a go, and it worked! She has it at bed time and this last week she's starting to resist sleeping during the day so her dummy helps her nod off when she's tired.

I started him with one yesterday and he loves it! He was using me as a dummy, so I had a bit of break last night :)

Glad it's worked! My daughter has had a dummy since day 2 or 3 and is exclusively breastfed as she was using me as a dummy and has never had a problem with nipple confusion.xx

We tried them yesterday and its worked as he was using me as a dummy(i dont give it to him often but he actually wont take it if hungry).

Yay! Glad its working for you. I am only using is now and again as I don't want to rely on it too much xxx

My mw recommended we get one. She said it was fine as Evan is fine BF - greedy little man has been using my nipple as a pacifer and getting a cheeky feed at the same time. I was dead against them but he has been getting so upset it's worth a try. I'll only use it when he needs it though xx
