Some of you may know that at my 12 week scan, I was put back by 3 weeks to 9+1 - it was a bit of a shock and as the dates didnt add up, I have spent my entire pregnancy questioning my EDD.

I had a growth scan last week and I am now 2 weeks ahead of where I should be, so although the hospital/Dr states I am 34 weeks today, I am measuring 36 weeks...but I think I am 37 weeks.

Having spoken to a consultant and both of my MW's - they have all said that I should "go with my instincts" and if I think I am really 36 - 37 weeks, then I should prepare to come earlier than my late April EDD.

I know its never precise and EDD's are just that - estimated - but its shocking that we can put a man on the moon yet no-one can give me a more precise date and I am stuck with a possible 3 week window! I'm also concerned that if I am right and I am 3 weeks further along than they think - how far over will they let me go? It could be dangerous for baby if I am allowed to go too far over...

I have had the most wonderful, smooth and enjoyable pregnancy - I would love it to continue without any hiccups!!

Gosh thats such a tough one hun i feel for you. Im the same i still think they got my dates wrong i got put foward a week at my 12wk scan but i still think im another 2 weeks ahead as that goes with my dates!!

Ive got no words of wisdom but will be watching this thread to see what others say xx

Blimey, never heard of dates being that far out.
No advice for you hun, but best ask your mw what would happen in that situation xx

Ahhh chezza I remember it well!! Was absolutely gutted for you.

I think that if you're sure of your dates, as the majority of us are when we're ttc, then you Should go with what you think and treat yourself as 36 weeks- can you discuss induction with your midwife? I'm sure they will take your dates into account?

I have a feeling your Babba will be here well before you're "40 weeks", but it might be worth asking to be induced earlier than the usual 2 weeks?

I agree though, surely if you've given the date of your last period, your cycle length AND you're measuring 2 weeks ahead you'd think they'd adjust your due date???!!!!

Xxxx

Thanks ladies! I have 2 midwives (both part time) - and both have said to "go with my instincts!" - I'm happy to do that I guess, but it doesnt help with how to decide to go on maternity leave.

I was due to go on ML mid April, but have brought it forward to the 5th April, just so I am guaranteed to get at least a few days off before he arrives!

I have my "35" or "37-38" week MW check next Monday...so will broach the subject again to try and find out if she can offer any more advice other than "go with my instincts" lol!! It's not him coming early or late that worries me, it's more the fact that the consultant told me last week that the placenta stops working as well after 41 - 42 weeks which is why they induce you...I didnt know this - and dont want to put my little one in danger. xxx

Wow. It is amazing that they can be so unsure! My guess would be that when you get to what you feel is week 41/42 (unless the baby makes an appearance before then) they should be prepared to induce you, to be safe - that would be your 'official' week 39 wouldn't it? But I agree with the others, talk to the midwife/GP/whoever in advance so you have a plan and don't need to worry about it. If they can't get their dates right then it's the least they can do!

I agree with Jolly! Asked to be induced early! x

I agree with Mousie Chezza. See if you can get them to agree to this in advance x

I dont know what to say appart from the scans on the baby (early ones) are very accurate to about 5 days because they only use the development size of fetus not your dates or cycle length at all, i was convinced they had my date wrong last time and was adament i was 1 week ahead but she came the day after edd so they where closer than me and i measured ahead too. Its worth asking but i would just be careful pushing for induction because you dont want baby too early xx

I agree with the guys above as well. They will allow you to go past 42 weeks if you abosolutly don't want to be induced but you have to go into hospital every other day for monitoring to make sure the placenta is working still.
I would push for an earlier induction date and keep a close eye on movements - I can't beleive the dates are so far out!

Hi Chezza I remember when you were put back too.. I think as you were pretty sure on your dates it's definitely worth being ready earlier, and also pushing for induction when you should be 40+12 or there abouts. It seems crazy bubs measured so differently but now has caught up...but I think you have to go with your instinct!!

Hi iv just noticed this post and iv been crawling round the internet trying to find someone in a similar situation to me and yours is exactly that! I know this is a few years ago for you now but just wondering about your outcome? I'm either due in 3 days or nearly 3 weeks it's driving me mad and like you say I don't want to end up having a 43/44 week pregnancy!! Would love to hear when and how u deliverd in the end x

Ooh my goodness, I so feel for you. My dates were perfect as I knew when I ovulated. Midwives had a completely different date. They didnt listen to me at all. I said my dd was may 18th they said june 11th ... my dd arrived 41+6 on 31st...midwives still kept to their dates being right and that she was early...no I was overdue. Your baby will most likely arrive on your dates x

Thank u for getting back to me! I haven't managed to find anyone in the same boat and its so annoying having it 3 weeks apart! Plus I live in Tenerife and all the Spanish docs and midwife just shrug everything off and say everything is normal!! I have a feeling she is coming really soon and you know your own body, can't imagin her staying put another 2 and half weeks and then maybe another 2 weeks more again! I tracked my dates for the past year ttc so I'm pretty sure of them too! Thank u :) xx

Hello! Sorry, I don't come on here much at all anymore - it was pure chance that I saw your message tonight!.

I ended up delivering on my EDD in the end! So I was bang on time, as far as my MW was concerned. The dates still didn't add up though - it was a bit strange!

Good luck - hope it all goes well for you! xx
