So Monday we've got an appointment to take our dog and get him put to sleep :( he's 12 years old a german shepherd x Newfoundland so very old for his size. He's got severe hip diplasia (Sp?) and now an infection in his mouth which is stopping him from yawning so he's not got a great quality of life and I know that but I can't help feeling guilty that it's too soon. It doesn't help my dad is so attached and disagrees with the decision to the point he won't even discuss it!

I know it's the right thing and I'm gunns be with him right til the end but well it just sucks :(

Abit pointless but it's nice to vent xx

So sorry Hun. Hope everything goes as well as it can. Xx

Hugs, it's always a hard decision but you are just doing your best for him. Honestly I was quite upset at my mum when she decided to put down their 17 year old greyhound but once I had time to come to terms with it I knew it was the right choice. Hugs

Hope today is as respectful and dignified as possible for your pooch :) pets do become part of the family and loosing them is devastating.

Did the Vet discuss all your options (if you have any)? X

My heart goes out to you . I have been there twice with our german shepherds it is heartbreaking. I am sorry to read this,. My thoughts are with you xxx

Aww this is such a sad story. You're dad is being really unfair about your decision but hopefully he'll come round when he's had time to come to terms with it. Vets don't just put animals to sleep willy nilly - they look at the situation and if the animal is suffering they advise you to end that. Try to focus on the loving home you've given him for those 12 years. It's so sad having to put an animal to sleep but I'd choose that over watching it suffer in an instant. Really hope you're ok. xxx

Thank you, basically the vet said they can't be certain what's wrong with his mouth and head but all she knows is it's nasty and he's in a great deal of pain and probably won't last til the end of the month :( my dad is finally coming round to it, he's gone off to work today but was sobbing as he left.
I've decided I'm going to be with him right til the last moment so he's not alone, we've got a few hours left so he's being swamped with cuddles. He's so food orientated but we can't give him any thing as his stomach has become super sensitive and he gets explosive diahrrea, so cuddles it is!
Thank you for the kind words ladies I really appreciate it. Xx

Sounds like your doing the right thing, he wouldn't enjoy smother month of pain and suffering. Glad your dad is seeing sense.

Just focus on what a fantastic life he has had and a lovely dog he was. Lots of found memories xxx

Well he's gone. He went do peacefully I couldn't ask for more. Thank you for the support ladies xxx

I'm so glad it was peaceful, makes me cry thinking about it. Pets are the heart of any family. You did the right thing for him xx. A dog as loved as that had a wonderful life
