I just had a quick check up today and doctor allowed me to listen to the baby's heartbeat on the doppler which was fantastic, but he advised me not to buy one. He said that since they started selling them, they get queues of women in all states of hysteria at the hospital after being unable to find heartbeats and most of them end up without any probs, they just panic all the time.

I've changed my mind now and decided not to get one and to let nature takes it course. I can imagine that I would be the sort of person to be trying to find it all day..and it might become an obsession. I know its really reassuring to hear, but I don't think I want to add extra stress. What do you guys think?

I love my doppler and still use it about twice a week. I used to use it everyday before I felt baby move, and found it a real bonding tool.

I can understand what you are saying about becoming obsessed with trying to find the heartbeat. I have never had any problems finding the heartbeat, so I have never had to panic.

You do what ever you feel is right for you. xxx

I am tempted to get one but am concerned it may send me into panic mode if I couldn't find the heartbeat...

I don't know what I will do... I think it would be nice for OH if i get one though...

im going to get one, but i know the heart beat isnt easy to find, so i will try and be sensible, if i cant find the heart i will know baby is ok mummy is just being a prat lol

last pregnancy i used one most days, even when i could feel baby moving, just found it relaxing and like i was really bonding with baby that bit more

I struggled to find the heartbeat first time but once i'd found it once its pretty easy to find as you know the area to look in. Mine arrived the day after id had a scan and knew all was ok so i didnt panic too much when I couldnt find it straight away. :)

Earlier you try your likely to not find it but when you do and you know where to looksie its great :D First time my MW tried she couldn't find it so I showed her how :rotfl: As time goes on its easier and louder even now sometimes I can't find her straight away buut I'm relaxed and just have a look about. People say a full bladder helps however for me personally when I have a full bladder I can't find her :?

Defo a bonding tool :D

PS: got mine before 10 weeks baby #1

yea ive got a prenatal heart listener its been awesome to hear babys heartbeat so i know babys fine when i hadnt felt movement. prenatal is also good to hear the baby in the fluid when its small good to hear splashing sounds.

its entirely up to you tho. you could buy one if u wanted then u can hear babys heartbeat anytime and record it for others to hear and keep it for yourself when babys old enough to hear it and let them hear it.

my prenatal is £30 in most shops like argos :)

just love it for reassurance.

also u can listen to it day before your anti natal and hear it again at anti natal.

or u can just do what your gonna do and just wait for the anti-natal appt. guess for me cause i can hear it and then going to anti natal classes ive heard it and know babys fine so hearing it there just dont feel like how it used to be but mw can tell me how fast its beating ;) as prenatal dont show it :)

having said that now i dont think i would of bothered with one now.

Well mine is on it's way and I have my first scan tomorrow.

I'm really wishing now I had it before the scan as I am soooooo nervous that somthing will be wrong and to have heard the heartbeat would have been so reasurring!

Hopefully everything will be fine and I will have my doppler by Wednesday!

Will let you know how it all goes! :D
