Doppler?

Yes chase exactly and ‘kicks count’ say - if you came across someone who had collapsed, you wouldn’t just check their pulse was ok and walk off!

I love it in the first tri, can’t wait to let DD listen too <3

Ok well if anyone of you is actively using a doppler please let me know as I have questions :)

Plus, when I say reassurance, I mean hearing the baby is ok on what I would consider a normal day.
If I ever felt something was wrong there's no way I would rely on it, please don't assume that of me.

When did you first find your LO's heartbeat?
How often do you try to find it?
Is it in the same place every time?
Where roughly on your stomach did you find it?
Which doppler do you have?

With DD I heard it at about 10 weeks- will let you know as soon as I hear it this time.

This time round I’ll be listening to it about twice a week before I used it a handful of times

I don’t think it was in the same place each time, she even moved whilst I was listening once.

I found the heartbeat bottom of my tummy, top of my pubis (that the right word?)

And I have angelsounds Doppler I believe x

It’s very difficult to find until the uterus is above the pubic bone. It’s still difficult after that, but it’s at least possible  it won’t be in the same place each time, it depends on baby’s position on the day. When baby is so small, the fact you can’t find it doesn’t mean there’s a problem it’s because baby has wiggled into a silly position. It’ll be quite low, usually below your belly button. You also need to check your pulse at the same time to make sure it’s not your pulse you’re hearing

Thanks. I'm a confident user it's just been a while.
I found DD at 7+4 but this baby is much trickier to find!

I used one in my pregnancy with DD just before my 12 week scan as I had anxiety about going to the scan and they say there is no heartbeat. But also knew that it could be difficult to find and didn’t necessarily mean there was no heartbeat.

I understand midwife views though, I’m sure you’ve tired to find enough over the years.

In early pregnancy, the locating of the fetal heart is difficult but the midwife will caveat that before they start trying to locate it. But it's more to do with what a midwife is hearing and the expertise they have. It's not just oh it's a fast heart rate, it's different to maternal, all good. They are listening out for other things also.

Some people use dopplers simply to just hear a baby's heart beat. The danger is when they are worried about movements, or the mum isn't feeling well, uses the doppler, hears a fast heart beat and thinks all is well when in fact it's not and they should have referred themselves to a trained professional. Women have lost babies this way.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but they can be so dangerous with devastating consequences.

I'm aware of that, but again that's not what I'm asking.

I appreciate everyone's input but I'm not asking what everyone's opinions of doppler usage are, I am trying to find other people like me who are actually using them.

I don't appreciate people commenting making me feel inferior or naive for using one. If I felt something was wrong I would be straight on the phone to my midwife just like I did with DD, especially as a GBS & ORhDN mother.

Sorry if I sound mean but no matter what I say everyone is completely missing the point of this thread and I'm getting fed up.

I first used mine around 11 weeks. I had to press quite hard and it took a while to find. Baby was low down and to my left. It stayed there for a while. I would check around once a week. Last time I listened to the heartbeat was a couple of weeks ago, at 17 weeks, and the heartbeat was best heard more towards the middle of my tummy, a couple of inches below my belly button.

Awww how sweet :)
Thank you for replying!
It's amazing the first time you find it :D I rang up DD's dad at work and went 'listen!!!' Haha

It is reassuring before the stage that you can feel baby moving :)

It really is :)
Like I said before, if you have concerns before 14 weeks there's not a lot they can/will do anyway so I don't see why having a cheeky listen does any harm!
I love it, it's magical :)
