Anyone else here using one?
I found DD's heartbeat with mine at 7+4.
I found it brought great relief and comfort (I was paranoid due to a previous mmc).

When did you first find your LO's HB?

EDIT: I'm trying to find other people who ARE using them. If you don't like them, that's ok but that's not what this thread is about. Thanks :)

I do. But I never even tried until 15 weeks to save myself the anxiety

Took me a while to find it and I always take my own pulse first. Hers is easy to heat however as its like 150bpm

Its been a great worry reliever for me at times. But I will say its also worried me at times when she's tucked away and I've struggled.

Its just important that people don't use it for comfort and to reassure when they think something is wrong. Usually I have a sneaky listen after a mw appt or a scan just because it makes me happy to hear her

Iirc you can find the same heartbeat as baby via the placenta so if you know where yours is it can be useful if baby is hiding. I had a front placenta last time so it was easy for me once I knew.

Only 6 weeks, haven't found Peanut yet. Too dinky I think :)

I’ve not got one myself. But echo the bit above about not relying on it. Had couple of midwives mention stories of pregnant ladies not going in to get checked as thought everything ok with Doppler, but weren’t actually picking up heartbeat and things not turning out well.

Sorry, that was depressing!!! Think fine for fun though!! Xxx

Agreed.
I would always get checked if I was concerned.
But if anything is wrong in the first trimester they won't/can't do anything anyway.
So for me it's just reassurance until that first scan :)

I think it's a double-edged sword because it CAN be reassuring and it CAN cause more stress. I tried using mine at 9+6 and searched and searched and couldn't find the heartbeat and it really put me in a terrible mental state (even though I told myself I likely wouldn't find it and I knew it was super early). I think like Netty said after 14-15 weeks or so you can use it to check periodically (I know I will haha) but before 12 weeks it's just not worth the stress I think.

Baby is small and still moves around a lot in there, you're not gonna find it every time.
Once I knew where DD was she was easy to find, especially if you know where your placenta is!
:)

Baby is also veeeery low. Lower than I expected.and you've got to get through your public bone to hear it

I have anterior placenta and she is often either nowhere near it or the whooshing from the placenta drowns her out.

I'd really advise ladies to wait to save the anxiety. Even now at 25 weeks I can't hear her sometimes clearly neither can my midwife due to how deafening the placenta is being right up front. If she's tucked down behind it she's hard to locate

I hear they're calling to ban home dopplers apparently which I can understand. I've had my moments of shitting myself with mine. To a point where I've had to just put it away and not use it.

I had a Doppler with my first pregnancy and i did like listening to her every now and again BUT had I not been able to find her it would have sent me into a wild panic. I don’t think I’m going to get one this time x

Yeah I can understand that.
I still haven't found Peanut yet but I'm not too worried, needle in a haystack at this point!

They are a massive no-go for me. Even if there is something the matter with baby you could still hear placental blood flow. Sometimes even as midwives it’s difficult to hear what you’re looking out for.

Massive no-go with me too. The vast majority of midwives hate them, and that says it all for me! Each to their own of course :)

I keep thinking about it. But I don’t know if it would make me panic if I couldn’t find it, even though the logical part of my brain knows there are a whole host of normal reasons why sometimes it’s hard to pick up

I used one in my pregnancy with DD just before my 12 week scan as I had anxiety about going to the scan and they say there is no heartbeat. But also knew that it could be difficult to find and didn’t necessarily mean there was no heartbeat.

I understand midwife views though, I’m sure you’ve tired to find enough over the years.

Think they should be banned! Not a fan at all.

I have one and only used it a few times. I don't use it now that I can feel baby kicking. It was just for reassurance before my 1st scan really and I limited use to once a week. It's not really known what effects it can have on the foetus so it's best to keep Doppler use short and few and far between.

I have one, I don't know whether I will use it this time around.

They must never ever be used for reassurance as we are not medically trained
