My lo is 7 weeks old and recently started arching her back and screaming after taking first 2ozs. She isn't sick but chokes quite a bit and she cries in her sleep as well. I thought it was teat size but changed those and she still screamed. Any advice would be great xx

Hey love,

Jackson had silent reflux and would arch his back amd cry and dance around the teat. He also would over eat like 5oz every 4h and would end up all bunged up.

We got gaviscon prescribed but there was a manufacturing problem so i basically cut his feeds and bared with it.

Xxx

It could be. My LO started around 6weeks with squealing and would've cried in sleep but then he would've woken up in pain. We initially thought it was wind we couldn't get up for him but he got more and more distressed as the nights went on. He was sick aswell though. We got rantitidine and saw a massive improvement almost immediately. It's awful to see them so upset and not be able to fix it for them. I'd see doctor or HV (tho my HV didn't seem that interested even though I explained how bad it had got she said if it got worse to speak to doctor). Thankfully doctor was willing to prescribe over phone from what I described so we didn't have to wait over the weekend for an appointment. Hope you get sorted quickly.

My oldest had this but with constant sickness too.

If you're formula feeding you can try a thickened formula like sma staydown. If this helps you have your answer.

They CAN check it but they won't, they're more keen to prescribe you the meds to try out if you say you suspect that's what it is. Even if you go GP about it. Just saying because it's normal practise on other countries to thoroughly check before prescribing meds. I'd say it's more likely stuck wind that needs to be brought up before presuming the feed. But then again I think colic and (silent) reflux could easily be related with eachother..

Do you get bubbles in the bottle or teat, are there more bubbles being "put back" into the bottle during feeding..? That too can cause wind, even harsh wind that's a struggle to bring back up or even can cause vomiting when winding too late.

My lo has just started doing this at 6week and 5 days... Exactly the same as you have described! I'm currently sat waiting to see Dr as I phoned HV and she advised to see GP about baby gaviscon or anti reflux food! I'm scared to feed him as its such an ordeal, poor babas :( hope you get it sorted xxx

I didnt need the gaviscon and didnt want it either as it pretty commonly causes constipation and Jackson already had this due to the overeating to curb the pain from the silent reflux..

Jackson wasnt vomming so we didnt need to have anti reflux milk however we did switch to C&G stage 2 and it really heped along with feeding an oz an hr until he was back to his usual 4oz every 4h, which was hard work esp when they scream in pain till the next feed.

I hear the c&g anti reflux from boots is quite good but I stuck with the stage 2 as it had nothing added and was quite creamy. That or the aptimil stage 2 as they r exact same but cow and gate is cheaper. Plus its only in boots the anti reflux one and i was scared i ran out and boots was closed lol.

We also tried all diff teats and all the infol type stuff under the sun to no avail.

Thanks girls well I took her off infacol last night and she took her bedtime feed like a dream. She is on sma comfort so if there is a slight reflux the Orange of the infacol could be causing her pain. And has fed every 4 hours from 5am so happy mummy today with happy baby xx

I thought exactly the same with infacol, after a few days on it my lo had silent reflux symptoms - he was diagnosed with it at a few days old but it seemed to have subsided and came back with the infacol. Glad your lo is ok now. We use Dentinox now if my lo has wind and he has no problems with this xx
