So I went to see a doctor about Harrisons milk strike (whole other story), and he asked me how Harrison is fed. I said he has 4 or 5 formula feeds a day, aswell as 4 or 5 breastfeeds, and the odd bottle of expressed bm. His reply to this was

"Well what's the point in that, you might as well just exclusively formula feed. Theres no point in giving him half & half"

:o :o

Obviously I know that in a perfect world Harrison would be exclusively breastfed, but he's not & that's that.

I was so shocked at his implication that giving him breastmilk was 'pointless".

I was under the impression that any bm he can get is brilliant? He actually almost made me feel guilty for continue to bf alongside ff.

Douchebag.

What a nob. Obviously has no idea about anything :( ie. benefits of breast ill, trials and struggles of feeding etc .

gp's are not that bright really, theyre like odd job men, know a little about a lot but not a lot about anything. often if you have looked up your problem your better informed than them!

Stupid tosser. I'd speak to someone a little more sensitive for starters. My gp was a right pr1ck. He might have had a medical degree but he clearly hadn't been trained to develop a decent bedside manner. His social skills were awful. I don't visit my gp often, but when I do (maybe, once every 2-3 years) I prefer not to feel like nothing more than a time-waster. Asked to see a female doc in the end - pretended it was a woman-thing and have no problems since then. I didn't actually care if I got a female, just didn't want him and it was the only thing I could think of. Maybe you could do the same?

What a fool. But as pp said gps study like crazy to be jack of all trades master of none. Ina lot of respects I think they should keep their noses out of the whole baby-journey as they have no idea, unless they take specific additional training. Less 'trained' people are far more knowledgeable, even hv, mw etc

You are right to combi feed where possible instead of exclusive ff - for crying out loud it's a recognised method.

The only thing to be said against it is milk production may reduce if not ebf - but up to 6 months when there is some benefit in the antibodies, digestible content etc how could anyone say there's no point??
