Recycle?

I live in a building of 4 flats and today is rubbish day. Outside there is a mountain of black bin bags and one pink recycling sack.

 I don't recycle- I keep using the excuse that I have too man other thing to think about but it's actually because I can't be bothered

My NY's resolution is going to be to recycle more of my rubbish...

when we lived in a house i would always recycle i love doing it, but in the flats we live now there are no recycling bins the counsil says we aint allowed to as its more work for them :(
so no i dont anymore but i want to
xx

We only have 2 weekly rubbish bin collections now so dont have much choice, they collect black (rubbish) bin one monday then green (recycling) the next monday... we struggle to manage 2 weeks to be honest and we recycle all that we can so I dunno how people with bigger families who dont recycle manage! :)

yup, i recycle everything and have done for as long as i can remember... when we were growing up, everything recyclable went into appropriate sacks in the garage and we'd do a trip to the recycling tip every couple of weeks. and all waste food was composted too.

before connor we'd only put out about a carrier bag of rubbish a week :cheer: now its more like 3/4 bin bag but that's including connor's disposable nappies - when we move i think i'll switch to cloth nappies, so we'll probably be back to about a carrier bag of rubbish per week.

my borough council make it very easy to recycle - they accept pretty much anything that's recyclable (paper, card, tins, plastic) and you can put it all out together rather than having to sort it out. there's no excuse not to recycle when they make it that easy  :)

I'm the hippy freak in our family... but because of where we live I need DH to help me with the bin bags down the stairs... I find it a tad straining on my back to carry several recycling bags, a baby, a changing bag, sometimes a pushchair... down the stairs, then to struggle with them for 6 blocks to the nearest recycling bins. :( DH however is notoriously bad at doing any chore including taking down the bins in general and our rubbish bin is just downstairs  So no I don't recycle... I used to when it was just me, DH and Tia... but until I can get DH on board with chipping in... its going to be a while before I can recycle again. :(

We recycle a lot and our council makes it easy for us. We have a bin for garden waste and cardboard. A box for paper, cans, glass, plastic bottles, clothes and there's a recycling point for tetrapak juice cartons across the street. I'd love to compost too but it's not so practical as all our outdoor space is communal.

I'd still recycle even if it wasn't as easy and we drove all our recycling to the supermarket before the council had the boxes. I remember in the flats we used to live in one new neighbour was loading newspapers into the (communal) bins and I pointed out to him that the boxes over the other side were for recycling. He said "Naw it's OK, I'm only living here for a short while anyway." WTF?!

Yep, we recycle everything we can. We have bins in our kitchen. One for food waste and non recyclables and the other for recycling :)

Our Council do 2 weekly collections. We have one big black wheelie bin for general waste which does us just fine, then we have one green bag for plastic and one green bag for cardboard and a box for metal/glass/paper. Oh and a green wheelie bin for garden waste.

We never used to bother recycling beforehand so the collections are great for us. A lot of people moan about it being only every 2 weeks but we don't find it a problem at all, plus we rinse out all out plastics/metals/glass so there's no smell outside the back door.

I recycle everything I can, but could probably do more and one of these days, I will start my compost bin too.

It makes me mad when people don't recycle yet facilities are in place and they are physically able to.

Yes we do now we live in the house.
We have a green blue and brown bucket out the back and we take bottles to the bottle bank and clothes to charity shop.
Admittedly when we were in the flat it was near impossible. There was a blue bin down stairs but nowhere up stairs (3rd floor) to store anything so pretty much everything got chucked into normal rubbish

We actually have THREE, yes, THREE, fully sized wheelie bins for rubbish.

Black for general household waste
Green for recycling
Brown for garden waste

Ditto... plus a blue one for paper  bloody FOUR bins, our front garden looks like a recycling centre :rotfl:

Yes we do and have for years. I think its important that as Dan grows up he recycles as habit.
We don't have a brown bin for food waste but we have our own composter in the garden instead.

If we collect too much, ie glass is only emptied once a month then we take the rest to the tip.

Yes. We have 2 collections each week and no wheely bins! :cheer: We put out black bags for rubbish and clear ones for recycling. We have 2 bins in the kitchen and just put the recycling stuff into one of them and then put that in the clear bag, so we recycle tins, card, paper etc in that and then we take bottles to the bottle bank.

It really isn't that much work to recycle if the council collect it, you only have to put it in a different coloured bag.

I am not sure I would do it if it involved a lot of effort though!

Yeah. We have a wheelie bin for general rubbish and then another plus 2 boxes for recycling. I keep a different tub in the kitchen and just chuck everything to be recycled in there and separate when I take it out. It takes less than 5 minutes. When I move I will have a garden and so am getting a composter - at the moment it goes with card in the wheelie bin.

Yep i recycle what i can :D

We have a weekly pick up of recyclable stuff and fortnightly rubbish collection.
We have boxes for recycling but no bin for rubbish so all my rubbish has to be stored in my utility cupboard outside my front door so i try and keep down what i throw out as much as possible.

One bug bear i have with my council is the limited things you can actually recycle for example corrugated cardboard they wont take :?

Apparently my council are in the process of looking to change back to weekly rubbish collections which to me will have a negative impact on the amount of recycling people will do. Plus the amount it is going to cost us taxpayers as they want to swop the recycle boxes for a large bin then a smaller one for rubbish. Seems stupid to me.

Oh and i cant wait to have a garden so i can have a compost heap.

Yes :D , we have a recycling collection once a fortnight, green storage box size for paper card, black of the same for bottles jars, and a blue sack for cartons and tins.

I'm sorry to say that at the moment I don't, only because the council haven't provided me with the boxes! We moved in here in March and I emailed them straight away asking for a box to recycle with because ours were no where to be seen and they said there was a waiting list and they'd drop as some as soon as they became avaliable. Still no boxes so everything goes in bin bags which really annoys me! I'm gonna get on to them again!

We do coz we have alternate weeks for recycle and general rubbish. We have a green bin for normal and a blue bin for recycle. I think we're to expect another bin soon too, but not sure when and what for.
