Ladies, I am driving myself crazy over this subject! Apparently it is recommended to sleep on the left side later in the pregnancy and avoid lying on your back or right side to help the blood flow properly.

Anyone else struggling with this?? x

There is no way I could sleep solely on my left side! I switch side every hour at night (poor OH gets as much sleep as me) and sometimes have a cheeky five mins on my back.

They say avoid long periods on your back cause the baby can press of the main bloodflow from your legs back to your upper body, this causes light headedness and eventually can restrict blood flow to the placenta.

Left side is just better than the right cause it has less major organs to squish on it!

You probably gathered from my replies in the other thread, but nope. I sleep in all sorts of different positions through the night :)

I'm the same as miss impatient, sleep on both sides and the odd 10 mins on back if hips are sore x

I sleep on whatever side is more comfortable! The main thing is not to spend loads of time on your back :)

I have always slept solely on my left side and I still do. Once I am asleep I do not move! :)

Im more comfortable on my right hand side so find I end up on that side lol x

I find it v uncomfortable on my back, feel like I can't breath, so I sleep either on left or right side, usually alternate, though they do say sleeping on left side is better. I find sleeping with a pillow between my legs helps alleviate back & pelvis pain associated with sleeping on your side.

I sleep on my left hand side. The baby's back is on my right and arms and legs on the left of my belly. If I sleep on my right it boots me all night. Plus my husband sleeps on the right side of the bed and he's snores xx

I sleep however I end up, sometimes I wake on my back but I think that's why I wake. I mainly sleep on my side but I never take any notice of which one its just whatever is comfy. Esp as I get bigger whatever works to get some sleep.

Michelle.x

I sleep on either side but avoid my back even though it's my favourite and still most comfy! My midwife said either side is absolutely fine, left preferable but getting a good nights rest is far more important than the very slight benefit of sleeping on the right

I try to fall asleep on my left side but I think it's quite hard to stay one side all night, when I wake up through the night I am on my back so think it's my body's way of telling me to get back on my side. Don't loose sleep over it babe (literally haha), my midwife said it's more important to get a good sleep for baby x x

I tend to sleep mostly on my left side but it has absolutely nothing to do with me being pregnant it is simply because sleeping on my left side is my preference for comfort even when I am not pregnant lol. I do very often wake up on my back though! x

Thank you, Ladies! You were very helpful xxx

I will give the left side a go for a few more night and if it's disturbing my sleep I got back to rotating sides.
So far the OH snoring has been the best encouragement to stay on the left side

I sleep everywhere! Mainly on my belly/right side at the moment though and then my back and rarely on my left! X

Left right back - however I'm comfortable - same with my son .

I chop and change all night, try and alternate between left and right but end up waking up on my back quite a lot too although I do try not to sleep on back. I'd never get any sleep staying on one side all night xx

I sleep every way there is
Not fully flat on my front but mainly that's cos id get a dead arm
But I lie any old way if its comfy x

I had this same dilemma. I could only get comfy on my back until 3/4 weeks ago. Now it is my left or right side that I am finding comfortable and can't lie on my back at all. I asked my midwife about the whole thing and she said that it's not that it affects baby but it affects you. To do with blood flow. Sleep whatever position you find comfortable is what she told me! xx

Tmum, I'm thinking if the blood flow is cut of for you surly it must also limit blood/oxygen supply to the baby?! I wish somebody clarify this once and for all.. Besides, anything that effects you will in one way or another effect the baby x
