Do you know if you can choose your hospitals if councils are different?

For my last pregnancy where we lived everyone was sent to 1 central hospital which was just a given. We have since moved to Blackburn who are their own council but have no maternity unit at the hospital so use Burnley from my house is 18 miles away but Preston hospital is 12 miles away who arnt part of East Lancashire hospitals but Central Lancashire trust so will I be able to use Preston as it is far easier to get to as well from where we live or will i just be told it is Burnley no option?

I think your allowed to choose any hospital. My midwife asked me if I wanted the hospital closest to me, there no other hospitals around really so I think you can have any! Lol xx

you should get the choice, im moving to sunderland so my midwife is in a different area, and i made sure with her that i could still have the baby in my chosen hospital even tho i was moving areas and she said yes!

this was a big deal for me as the OH doesnt want me to have the baby in the hospital in sunderland

I mean its not the end of the world but my husband works away a lot and I am so daft but hate driving places I don't know on my own and I know exactly where Preston hospital is and parking etc. I was high risk last time so it was hospital every other week and every other day for last 4 weeks so when my phone says it is an extra 10mins each way I would rather save the time! I think I am just being daft

You should be able to choose. I live in Wales but am most likely going to an English hospital and I've had no issues with them providing my care.

You can choose, I live in Walsall but am going to a Heart of Birmingham hospital as it's closer for me and family.

I assume I need to tell the mw at the booking appointment? Its so difficult as the scans are done at thr Royal Blackburn which is perfect 10mins away but any other appointmenta and birth then go to Burnley hospital

I am currently deciding between 2 hospitals. Live in London and are given the choice :)

I have a similar thing with hospitals near me. I booked in in my area and asked for the maternity unit in another area. I was told that if I wanted that I would need to get booked in again in that area instead. It might change where you get scans and other appointments too. Would probably be worth speaking to them before your appointment in case you do need to go elsewhere...
