Hi there, only posted once before as seem to spend all my time reading everyone elses! Anyway, my son is just 4 months and was weighed last week at 20lbs! He was an average 8lb 7oz born but has managed to put on nearly a pound a week! I've just started weaning him as he is soooo hungry, takes 7oz every 2 half hours. Plus point, he does sleep 12hrs at night so I suppose he's got to get them in! [/url]

Hi
My baby boy Nathan weighed 19 and a half pounds at 3 and half months but when i got him weighed my hv said he was coming along nicely. They have all said he is going to be tall, he was born 9 and a half pounds, and he just kept getting bigger. I dont think Nathan is fat he is just a little chubby cutie, im sure it will all drop off when he starts crawling and walking.

Nah it's not.

I'm sure you HV would have raised concerns if there were any.

Stanley was a good 20lbs by 4 months old and is only 27lbs now at 13 months. Weight gain is not consistent month to month or baby to baby. He'll level out. :D (and S was only 7lb 2oz at birth, he packed it on)

mine were all 18 - 22 Ib by the age of 1.

So to me its a big baby

Even Rachael who was 10 pound at birth is only just over 21 pound now :)

I read somewhere breastfed babies gain weight more evenly? Formula babies are more likely to bulk up then even out as the milk's designed for calves :?

They're all different I guess.

Agreed, my son was born a normal 7lbs 8oz, and he put on a pound a week plus more. He was 20 + lbs at 4 months, enourmous i know but my hv said petfectly normal and it does settle down eventually, whn you start weaning him he should notice him starting to slow down growth wise.

Hes three now and almost 3 stone and perfectly proportioned, my hv was here yesterday and saying how well he looked.

My son was 7 weeks early only weighed 4lb 9 he is 19 weeks today and weighs 15lb no you have not got a fat baby and looking at the centile charts its only just over the average line dnt worry the gain will slow when weaning beacuse calories are reduced when milk is

Alex is coming up 7 months and is around 21-22lb, he's breastfed and weighed 6lb 1oz at birth. He's a little chunker too. DD is now 30-31lb, her weight gain slowed right down when she got to a year and has only put on approx 3-4lb since she turned 1.

I think your baby sounds fine :)

Sounds fine to me. Both mine were about that. They did start to lose it once they were moving around more. Shame the same couldnt be said for me.

I wouldn't worry as all baby's are different. I'm sure that your HV would say something if she thought your son was overweight. Jake is 10 1/2 months old now and only weighs 19lb which is a bit under average (he was 7lb 2oz born) but i'm not concerned and neither is my HV because I know he is happy and healthy.

Every baby is different hun, some will gain weight much more quickly than other.

Remember when the baby starts to move around more.. rolling, crawling and eventually walking they start to burn their baby fat off as long as they are eating a balanced diet etc when they are older.

I wouldn't worry too much about baby weight unless the HV etc mentions any concerns.

x

No. I'd say look at his personal growth rate, if he's gone up following a steady curve then he's just fine, it's only if there's a sharp and constant rise or dip that it should be looked into. A baby cannot be fat unless it has a serious reason like malnurishment or Prader-Willi Syndrome. Like others have said, if there was a medical problem your HV would have talked to you about it, if you're concerned talk to them about it, they should ease your concern. Also, have you thought about hungrier baby formula? I mention it only as it can lengthen the time between feeds, but maybe discuss that with your HV too, it's just a suggestion, might not be right for you or your son. Very best wishes

I would just say hes a lovely chunky little chap

MY eldest was like that he was 7lb 11oz at birth and was in 12 -18month clothes at 6 months, he was a big bubba

Now hes a 6'3" tall, fit, babe magnet :rotfl:

Tia on the other hand is 10 months and only 19 and half pound and still in 6-9 months clothes, but she doesnt sit still always on the go so shes tall and skinny with big feet (size 4)

Takes after her mum (feet only mind) :(

Thanks everybody for your help. Guess he's gonna be a big boy and I shouldn't worry! Just my purse that worries, he was in 3-6 mths for a week and now even 6-9 mth clothes are tight! He's now on 2 meals a day and 4 8oz bottles milk, sleeping 10-12 hrs a night so suppose shouldnt complain!

My Jake is prob gonna be the same- he was 15lb+ at 10 weeks. He isnt fat tho, just well built and quite long (past the 100th centile).
