Distractible breastfeeders: baby boy is almost 4 months old and has become extremely distractible at the breast. His usual feeding times have gone out of the window and whenever I try to nurse him he stays on for hardly a minute or two, pulls off, looks around, doesn't want to nurse anymore, etc. I've managed to coax him into feeding when he's sleepy and just up from naps, in a darkened and quiet room. He nurses fine at night. Looking for similar experiences and possible strategies to get them to feed. Just ordered some nursing beads. Is it just a temporary phase?

My baby is the same atm and same age so yours will probably also be going through the big 4th leap. I just be patient and offer again 15 mins later if he has gone a while between feeds. Atm mine can go 90 mins between feeds one day then upto 4 hours the next. He has just had a huge growth spurt too so must be more hungry some days than others. I just go with it and let him feed on demand.

Thanks TTT. You mentioned before that you check with your LO for hunger by offering him the boob (just putting to your chest with clothes on first), right? Is this still working? I'm not sure with mine when he's hungry or not, and apparently at this stage they can go for so long without feeding as they forget to feed being so interested in the world. Then they will feed A LOT during the night with many wakings.

It makes it really hard to have some sort of plans during the day, specially since trying to nurse outside the house is so difficult now.
