Hi all,

I'm new here. Spent years on another TTC forum but it's so quiet over there now! So here I am!

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this?

I bought some of the 20miu OPK's online. Started running low so bought some more but this time I bought ones (from the same company) that were marketed as the 'Shettles Method' ones. (Not because I want to try that method but because they worked out cheaper!)

Anywhoooo... On Saturday, I did one of the 20miu ones and it was positive.

So I went and bought a CB one just to see that smiley face but got negative.

So I did another of the 20 miu ones AND one of the 'Shettles' ones to compare them. And below is the results I got.

The ones with 'LH' on the darker green handle are the 'Shettles' ones and the ones with the plain lighter green handle are the ones I know are 20miu as it says on the packaging. On the Shettles ones, it doesn't say anywhere on the packaging or website what sensitivity they are (I've emailed them).

The top two were done with the same sample and the bottom four all with the same sample later that day.

Now....are we assuming the Shettles ones are less sensitive and that I didn't actually ovulate and the 20miu ones are TOO sensitive for me? (I've had negatives for a couple of weeks and this is the first even close to positive I've had on the 20miu)

One other thing - I had a Cervical Smear test on Friday (the day before the positive 20miu OPK) - could that have caused a false positive?

Any insight greatly appreciated :)

Sorry I'm being a bit dense - why do you think you didn't ovulate? Because of the negative cb?

It's ok :) My brain hurt after writing and then reading my own message!

Yes, negative on CB and on the other OPK's which I think are not as sensitive. The only positive I got was on the super sensitive OPK's - everything else, even with same urine sample, was negative.

It's probably better to get an overall pattern by doing a few days worth so you can see whether the line gets even darker on the sensitive tests. You are looking for the darkest line for you ... it's more of a pattern than a one off test. It's different for everyone.

I'm sure cbs aren't as sensitive as your ICs? But yeah I agree keep testing. What CD are you? x

I'm not sure what CD I'm on at the moment as I came off the pill and the Dr did warn me I could O within a few days or it might take weeks. Last pill was taken 15th Feb and I haven't bled at all since.

15th Feb - last pill taken
25th Feb - +OPK

I usually have very long cycles so not had a chance yet to figure out what my cycles are doing post pill but started doing OPK's so I'd know when I O'd and could start tracking cycles.

When I was TTC#2 I found that the CB always gave a positive when I had a positive IC too but I can't remember what sensitivity the IC's were back then (it was over 6 years ago!).

We BD'd a few times around the time I had the +OPK (3 days before, the day before, the day of the + and the day after) so I guess I'll find out in around 10/11 days either way!

I have all three sensitivities now! Had a delivery today so have the 20, 30 and 40miu ones!

Not many of the 20's left as had them a while but think I'll stick to the 30's as I read that most women have between 21.59 and 40ish miu in their urine just before ovulation whereas people who are pre-menopausal or menopausal only have 20 or less so they may just be too sensitive for me (assuming I'm not pre-menopausal at 35!)

Hi ladies. Just wanted to update.

The company I got these OPK's from replied to my email saying that both OPK's were 20miu even though they gave different results!

They asked me to attach a picture of the results (I sent them the picture above that I attached in my first post) and this is the email thread. Seems they may have been faulty....
