I had an iui done on November 12, and began to really hope that it was successful. I even had what I thought were symptoms of pregnancy, and was supposed to test this morning. I didn't even get to test. My period started. I am completely devastated again, and have just about lost all hope of ever getting pregnant and having a child.

Since it's almost Thanksgiving here in the States, I'm now trying to pour all of myself into cooking, and trying not to think about it. On top of that, I lost my dad earlier this year, so I'm really doing my best to keep it all together.

Hi Erin

Firstly, I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. That must have been so difficult.

As you can see from my sig, I had three IUIs done at the start of the year. Are you taking progesterone? I was, and I was getting cramps etc for at least one, maybe two of them and thought it might have worked. But no. I did know the odds were not much more than natural conception anyway so - you stand a much better chance with IVF.

That said, it is still really upsetting when you go through all those appointments, take the drugs and have the procedure but still no BFP. It got to me so much I actually ended up having a few weeks off work but I am feeling a lot more optimistic now.

Have you tried reflexology or acupuncture? I am having acupuncture with my IVF cycle and finding it really helps. I know I will be upset if I don't get pregnant but I know it WILL happen. And it WILL happen for you too. Xxx

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm currently not trying reflexology or acupuncture, but may have to give it a go.

Sorry to hear your iui wasn't successful. Do you have a plan to go ahead with now or do you need to go back and discuss things with your consultant?

My doctor may change my medicine from Clomid to something else for this next cycle. Honestly, I'm expecting that to fail, too. After that, I guess we'd go on to ivf.

I don't have any experience/advice but sorry to hear it failed. Really hope you get your BFP soon x

You need to relax hunni, stress wont help to getting pregnant, is there anything you can do to relax and unwind xx

I like to watch comedy to help myself relax - I'm watching the IT Crowd right now, and it is helping to take things off my mind. Art and music help too.

What about them relaxation colour books you can do, also can you and hubby take a spa day, try yoga xx

I like those things too :)

If you want to know how relaxing acupuncture is, I've actually fallen asleep in the last two sessions! Reflexology is cheaper over here but similarly relaxing.

Just so you know - and I read this after I did it - IUI mainly helps those couples with male issues. Our problem was with me (PCOS) and I wasn't on metformin back then. If I was, we'd probably have given it a go but without it, there was no way I was going to get pregnant.

I'm not sure what your issues are. There is an IUI/IVF thread in long term trying though if you ever need more support - a lot of us on there will have been through failed IUI or not chosen to do it for whatever reason. I don't look at stats with IVF but I did with IUI because I really didn't want to get my hopes up.

Feel free to PM me if you'd rather. X
