What can they actually do for it?

My midwife told me at our last meeting that if i got to a point where i went so low and stayed there i was to get in touch. But ive been looking around online and have read a few pieces saying theres nothing they can do for it anway.

Also is it the doc i should be contacting, i dont get why the midwife wants me to contact her when its seperate from pregnancy?

saw this hun...

http://www.pregnancyforum.co.uk/forum/v ... medication

I think midwife will advise you what to do as you are under her care whilst preggo but it would be Doctor would be the one to prescribe you any meds.

Ive read different things on taking Prozac and anti d's whilst pregnant and its quite conflicting. I have taken every sort of anti-depressant, anti-psychotic and anti anxiety tablets ever made. I took them for 5 years and I only know what they did to me when I wasnt pregnant :(

how about other therapy like counselling or cognitive behavioral therapy instead? I know there are usually long waiting lists but as you're preggo I think you'd be made a priority

PM me anytime if you want to chat

xx

i think they try to do alot more for you now as they have found that post natal depression can start during pregnancy aswell
manda xx

DEFINATELY ask doctor about it hun. It really does help talking, even if you have nothing imparticular thats making you down. Just having someone to listen who doesnt judge you for feeling sad helps loads. I really hope you feel better soon

My doctor told me that it is very important to treat depression during pregnancy and that some women still take anti-depressants during pregnancy with no ill effects to the baby. Although it is best not to take any medication. The benefits have to be weighed up.

The most important thing is that the pair of you are in the best of health.

Thanks guys.. Ive had an unbelievably hard year and a half and i think its all caught up on me.

Tillytots ive pm'd you x

it all depends on how depressed you are etc.
you should be risk assessed . If the risk of your depression (possible harm to yourself/others etc) out weighs the risk to the baby then you will be advised to continue taking medication. They may change it to more baby friendly ones if necessary.

oh i see. id say speak to your midwife first and foremost. they are up to date on such things.

They say SSri's are safe to take in preganancy but they would assess the benefit of you taking them v/s the risk of your depression...talk to a GP.. they do have info on my docs surgery of medical eveidence of all meds ..my Gp had to look up some when i was pregnant

Have you tried excercising?

I have been depressed ALOT but never used anti d's (although sometime s it got so bad I really was tempted!) I diverse.

Have you tried excercise? No matter how low I would be when getting to the gym by the time I was finished I felt BRILLIANT Try doing at least 30mins a day even if its walking.

xx

I generally walk around an hour a day or more anyway. I have two school walks plus i get out with the dog for 40 mins. I really don't want to go on any meds and would much prefer a therapist or similar.
Just had so much bad things happen the past year i guess it all catches up on you. x
ps like the new name!
