Good Afternoon Girls,

I am looking for some advice.

I have an appointment for a tooth extraction on Monday morning and I was wondering how safe it is during the first trimester. I am very nervous about this as this will be my first tooth extraction and don't know what to expect. I also need to have a filling - is this also safe?

Please help.

i'd make sure the dentist knows that ur pregnant cos i needed a filling when i was preg n they wouldnt let me till after the birth (unless they did it without numbing :shakehead: )

:rotfl: you'll be fine. ripping teeth out will have no affect on your unborn baby.
it may well make u feel crap though

Hi

As far as i know yoru not suppost to have dentalw ork done until after baby is born, at least thats what i was told.

I dunno about that, they wouldn't give us free dental treatment if we couldn't use it....right??

My sis in law had allsorts done during her pregnancy, cos it was free/cheaper. She had enamel cappings, fillings, tons!!

Your not supposed to have (and dentists won't do) x-rays on your teeth while pregnant. You are perfectly safe to have fillings, crowns, extractions and so forth though. The injection given to kill pain will have no effect on the baby what so ever. Just inform your dentist that you are pregnant though.

yea make sure your dentist knows and your in early stages and to be careful. me i cancelled all 3 of my appointments as i wanted to see teh 20weeks scan. i hate dentist anyway and was too worried for my baby.im gonna have to go and book appt as its free :)

It is recommended to have at least a check up with your dentist as due to all the hormonal changes, your gums change and can become inflamed and sometimes sore. Obviously they wont just go ahead and do something to your teeth without your consent!

I am off to the dentist for the first time in 3 years on wednesday and I can't wait, I will be taking full advantage of this free dental care!!! :rotfl:

my dentist was happy to do a filling for me when I was pregnant - I didn't get it done because I hate dentists and now I have a huge whole in my tooth as the old filling (he was going to replace it) came out and took a load of tooth with it  I now have an exposed nerve and constant toothache.
Get whatever you need doing done - as long as the dentist knows you are pregnant they won't do anyhting or give you anything that they shouldn't.

Good luck!

Well girls..........

I got the tooth out this morning and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. :D The jag was rather painful and there was a lot of blood but I am in no pain now what so ever. As for the filling I have to get that after baby arrives and best of all I was refunded the money I paid in advance prior to finding out I was pregnant.

Feeling a bit rough now as the morning sickness seems to be getting much worse in the evening.

Take care xx

glad its all good - exactly how painful was the jab? I am going to ask my dentist to take my bad tooth out - am sick of havong it refilled when the filling falls out again!

MrsT

I found it quite painful. One of the worst I have had at the dentist. :(

I was given a jag at both sides of the tooth and it stung. As for getting your tooth out I would say see what your dentist recommends. I was told by a friend that dentist's don't usually take out teeth unless they have to as it effects your "bite" and can cause damage to other teeth.

Take Care x

ive got an appointment now for may something. i need a filling deffo but hope they dont lose bits like i swollow them or something.

only thing worry me when i go.

my dentist puts me too far back too that be bad for baby u think? if i just get him to sort the front one out where i lost a filling.

Thanks hun - I don't want it out, but on side of the tooth wall has gone (the side closest to my tongue) and thats why the newest filling pretty much fell straight back out!!
I currently don't eat on the right side of my mouth adn don't let any liquid go there either as the nerve is exposed.
It is just annoying me so much  I keep having dreams where I pull it out myself!! Hopefully they can solve it.

Not sure if it would be bad for baby, depends how far gone you are as laying back can put too much pressure on the placenta or something (don't quote me on that, not 100%) but would definitely be uncomfortable for you.

I don't know hunny - I know that's why they recommend you don't lie on your back in labour - but it's definitely worth mentionning it to your dentist.
You could always just say that your midwife said you should lie too far back for too long.

First I would like to say that I like your wedding photo, you both look very happy.

With regards to your tooth it sounds like what mine was like to start with. I don't want to scare you but I received root treatment on that tooth 1 year before I got it out.

I didn't find the root treatment painful at all, It was just a little sensitive for a few days afterwards. But then the rest of the tooth started to crumble away. The good thing was that because of the root treatment I never had any pain and was still able to eat as normal.

Take care x

ok - thanks
As I have just left the RAF I don't have a civvi dentist yet - need to sort one out, but we are moving in aug so it is all a pain in the ass at the moment!!!
