Hi everyone,

Is anyone drinking many decaf drinks? I love coffee and have 1-2 cups of decaf every day. There are some days though with it being decaf when I can have 3-4 cups. I have read somewhere that although it's decaf it's still not brilliant for you during pregnancy, but is this another case of "nothing is good for you. Go and sit in a cardboard box stuffed with bubble wrap and don't come out until your baby is 4 years old"? I'd love to know people's thoughts!

x

I don't drink a lot of hot drinks so I haven't bothered with the decaf. My MIL made me a cup of decaf tea and it tasted like dishwater- when I do have a hot drink I'd rather enjoy it. I've mainly drink water now, but on the odd occasion I have had lucozade when I've been feeling pretty rubbish. Everything in moderation I think! My sister is still drinking the odd glass of wine despite being 19 weeks pregnant! Xx

Yeah I try to avoid decaf drinks... I have roiboos tea when I can stand the smell, or water/juice when I can't. These coffees might be decaf, but they are full of other crap I'm afraid :( it's rubbish I know :(

I drink decaf coffee and I still drink normal tea. I'm not sure what is in decaf coffee but just be careful because it won't hydrate you as well as water will. I don't see the harm in the odd cup but I would try to cut down a little :) xxxx

I agree, I also have an occasional normal tea and decaf coffee, but I would try to avoid having them regularly x

Yeah, don't see the point in drinking decaf, to be honest, but it's a personal choice! I very occasionally have a cup of coffee, but I end up leaving half of it anyway. Sometimes have a cup of very weak tea, again leave half of it... (Can't stand warm drinks!) you are allowed 200 mg of caffiene per day, but don't forget that includes chocolate and tea too! Obviously just easier to drink green/white tea and water... I am a great believer in having stuff in moderation, and plus if you have a good/healthy diet then a cup of coffee ain't gonna hurt!

By the way, my new favourite is lemon with hot water! Like honey and lemon but minus the honey :)

I drink one cup of regular tea and one decaf coffee every day x

Bigbee but green tea also contains caffeine, doesn't it?

Hi I.love, you're right - It does but caffeine in green tea is half the concentration of normal tea. And amount of caffeine depends on the make as well so worth checking out labels, I suppose. Plus what I do is just dip the tea bag in and out and don't let it brew. I limit cups to just one a day (if I have it)... As I say, everything in moderation :) plus I don't eat chocolate, drink fizzy drinks etc. Of course, a better alternative is redbush. Remember, 200 mg is the max per day, so that still takes into account some tea/coffee/chocolate etc :)

I still have a cup of normal coffee almost every day, it's fine as long as you don't exceed 100mg of caffeine so I just avoid other high cafeine drinks :)

Hmm I will cut back a bit on my coffee intake! It's not the caffeine hit Im after in the coffee I just like the taste! Lemon and water it is then to be on the safe side! I've also found a renewed love for an old childhood favourite which is hot Ribena so I'll stick to that! Thanks girls :) x

I just wanted to mention that you can get other teas that are 'naturally coffeine free' (as it says on the pack) - I found camomile, peppermint, lemon and ginger and apple. There are probably others too. Might be a good alternative? X

Peppermint is nice.... Hmmm, I am such a numpty! Now you've mentioned it, I've actually been having lemon and ginger tea. it clearly states on the packet that it's caffeine free, but I've been dipping the tea bag in and out!!! What a tool.

Lol well now you can enjoy it properly :) x

I drink decaff tea- although treat myself to a can of coke a day with dinner... I really wish I could drink more water but I've always hated the taste of it - squash bores me too - I have to admit Often, when thirsty I weigh up whether I'm thirsty enough to bother stopping what I'm doing for a drink that I don't enjoy like squash!

I struggle with making myself get up and getting myself a drink when I'm thirsty too :( especially at night as I know that I will need to go to the loo later :( and I don't like the drinks anymore. I used to love water, now it tastes weird and makes me bloated. Boo!

It's a mine field- yesterday I decided I probably didn't drink enough water so I made a real effort and felt like I was drinking all day (although I probably just drank what you are supposed to!) and was awake every few hours going to the loo! Safe to say I'm tired this morning! I read you are supposed to drink more in pregnancy than your usual daily quota which I struggled with anyway!! x

Prior to pregnancy - it wasn't unheard of for me to go a whole day on just 1 drink... I probably still drink less than supposed to but I drink when I feel I need to!
