Dating scans essential or not?

Are dating scans essential or not i just read somewhere that there not? and some areas dont give them just the 20 week scan. Im 10weeks and at this rate im not sure im gonna have a midwife till im about 14 weeks which is really annoying but moving has caused all this, yet i dont know for sure that im gonna be moving yet Grrrr! Just wondering if i miss my dating scan if it really matters? x

It's not essential. If you were to pick between the two I'd imagine the 20 wk scan (18-22 wks) is more detailed in checking the anatomy so would seem to be the more important. the 12 wk scan is between 10 and 14 weeks usually so I wouldnt sweat it
