Hiya, I had my dating scan on friday which dated me at 13 weeks, baby looked healthy and is growing normally.
I have had two bad hemorrhages causing very heavy bleeding at 9 and 11 weeks..baby seems to be made of stern stuff!

The scan showed up an area where the womb has been divided by some sort of membrane. The sonographer said it could well be that the bleeding has caused a membrane to form, that it does look quite thick and the position it is in means that if it stays then a natural birth is not possible. She went and spoke to the doctor, and now I am under consultant led care and am booked in for another ultrasound with the doctor on tuesday. My notes also say an amniotic band cannot be ruled out.

This has obviously put a bit of a 'downer' on things, as its yet another worry- I really am trying not to worry...but googling of amniotic bands does not bring up nice things...

I just wondered if anyone else had had the 'membrane' form after an early bleed?

Thanks

My nephew was born with an amniotic band and is a fighting fit (wild!) 3 year old!! Nothing was spotted on my sisters scan - but they only had one scan as that was the policy in Glasgow 3 years ago!!!! Looking back they could have prepared my sister for the symptom my nephew was born with and they could've offered a lot of advice and support in preparation of Daniels birth, however they didn't have that and had to deal with a very stressful first few days (not regarding his actual health as he was very healthy)
You are in a great position that it's all been spotted and you have been assigned the right care for your pregnancy. Try not to worry - and for goodness sake do not google anymore!!!! It will just give you more to worry about.
My nephew's amniotic band symptom has taught our whole family that babies are made of tough stuff! And that when we have our own baby we'll be able to handle whatevers thrown at us.

Hope your scan goes ok on tuesday hun & you get some better answers etc. Didnt want to read & run sorry i cant be of much help but hope tuesday goes ok x x

I don't have any expierience of this but I just wanted to say that as they spotted it and are seeing a consultant now you are in safe hands. Hope your next scan goes well xx

First up....Step away from the google :)

2nd it has been spotted nice and early so they can help you with it, if you need more advise see if you can ring and speak to your consultant earlier :) just to ease your mind :) xxxx

Hi, and thankyou for your replies :)

I had my scan with the consultant this afternoon, the image on screen looked totally different from what was highlighted to me at my last scan but I guess she knows what shes talking about/looking for!!

The good news is that there is no signs or evidence of an amniotic band, the not so good news is that I have a "massively sized" hematoma. At the moment it is bigger than the baby. The consultant said her concern is that it will intrude on baby's growth as he/she gets bigger, she said the size means that it is unlikely to be absorbed into my body at this stage. The risks of miscarriage are higher and there will also be an increased risk of placental abruption (not what I want to hear when I have history of this and so does my mum, g mother and gg mother).

I dont need to be scanned again until 20 weeks but then after it will be monthly scans.

I know it could be worse, and it does worry me slightly but im a great believer in what will be will be and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I shall just keep my fingers and toes firmly crossed that everything goes ok :)
