Hi ladies,
I've had the Mirena coil for just over 3 years after having baby #1.
I'm hoping to have it removed soon!
How soon should I expect my cycles to return to normal? I'm planning to use OPKs as I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS!
Also should I start trying immediately or have a normal cycle first?
Cookie x

Never had a coil but I did have the implant a few years ago but had it removed after around 6 months as it didn't agree with me. Took about 3 months to settle back into pre implant cycle (based on period flow and length only as I wasn't tracking ovulation back then.) Every one is different, some women get right back to normal patterns the first month after removal. Some women can take quite a few months. I think you're best waiting for your first proper period after having the coil removed then using OPKs to track your LH peaks and ovulation. This might be tricky with PCOS though if it affects how regular your periods are so I would download a good tracker app to log everything and it's maybe worth discussing TTC it with whoever takes your coil out. Good luck x

I had mine out in January after 4 years. My first cycle was shorter, I did opks and I ovulated a bit earlier too, since then they've been pretty regular. I don't know what your periods are like but mine had stopped with the mirena and I'd forgotten what fresh hell they are!

Also I started trying immediately, I did ask the doctor if I should wait a cycle and she told me there was no need, just to start taking folic acid straight away.

Thanks so much both, that's really helpful!
I'm due to have it removed next week so we shall discuss it and see where we go.
Bought some OPKs now too so will be interesting to see how my cycle is.
I've always been clockwork with my periods, very regular, fell pregnant very quickly with baby #1.
The PCOS diagnosis came as a surprise, and they think it has been a long-term issue so I'm hoping it's just a late diagnosis and not something new that's going to put a spanner in the works!!
