Can little ones have cream cheese? My DS is 8 months old, he loves fingers foods but I'd much rather do him something other than only offering rusks and the like. I thought cream cheese on a bit of bread might be fun - and if cream cheese is ok would you go for something like Dairylee or Philadelphia type stuff? TIA xx

Oh and despite having a book on toddler finger foods there is nothing in there that is suitable for DS at this stage - any other finger food ideas that are not say organix crisps, rusks and biscuit bear type thing I'd love to hear from you!!

Yeh cream cheese is fine... we used either philly or dairylea.

At 8mths he can pretty much have anything.

Some of Arianna's favs at that age were...
* Toast
* Bread Sticks
* Fruit & Veg cut into battons (cucumber is fab if he is teething too as it cools the gums)
* cubes of cheese
* strips of chicken

Hope that helps a little :D

I don't use dairylea (personal choice) but do use cream cheese and have done for 2.5 months. I go by the guidelines I was given that states that anything goes bar honey after 6 months but I am careful what is in absolutely everything I give her (as much as is possible).

There's loads of finger foods listed on the forum, here are links to some of them.

We use breadsticks (Tesco Organic), pieces of toast (DD has a piece of wholemeal bread with un/s butter for breakfast after her porridge and fruit each morning), sandwiches (cream cheese and mini bit of pepper or cucumber, ham, cheese), fruit (but DD isn't keen on fruit that isn't pureed), cheese sticks or cubes, blueberries, ricecakes.

I hope this helps.

Ohhh i was wondering this myself, and couldnt decide in tescos today so will pop out tomorrow and get some of that and humous too.

Thanks V. x

Thanks for that, I'll get reading the other f/f topics too. I've been a little apprehensive about what to give him and HATE always offering a rusk or similar. Today he's had grated cheese (because I needed grated for a recipe) and carrot sticks - he seemed to love both. I'll be sure now to offer a much wider variety, I think he's getting bored of me feeding him so much, the whole "Mum I'm not a baby" look so we'll see how he gets on with more things now.

Valentine: Thanks for the tips/suggestions etc, I've never been given any guidelines and my HV, well I've seen her about 3 times since LO was born, I asked on last visit "what should he be eating now" and her reply was a shrug of the shoulders and "you should offer some type of finger foods" no suggestion as to what or how much etc - useless.

:D
