i was told when i had my dd not to use and have read in pregnancy book they not recommended what are everyones thoughts?

really?? when the baby starts to roll over i think they help! Would rather there was some padding there if it was going to hit its head!

i think it to do with air flow thru the cot and the baby not overheating

i used them til they started getting wriggly and could wriggle their heads under them!

wow just looked up some articals

"A 2007 study published in the Journal of Pediatrics found that 27 infant deaths were directly attributable to cot bumpers in the US over a 20 year period. Of the 27 deaths, 11 infants suffocated when their face was found in close contact with the padding, 13 died after being wedged between the bumper and another object and three were strangled by a bumper tie"

wow.... definitely made me think differently about it

I have also heard and read this. We won't be using one but only because Seb won't actually be in his cot until he's older as we are using a moses basket and co-sleeping so by the time Seb goes in his cot he'll be beyond the age range that the bumpers have on them. Again I had one with DD but she co-slept until she was 3 and by that time her cot had to be turned into the bed as she was too old for a cot. x I don't really know what my opinion is as cot bumpers have been linked to SIDS but i haven't seen any concrete research to back this up. I dunno if it's like anything else surrounding babies-use your discretion and common sense-ie don't leave it loose in the cot, once baby can roll and move and sit up etc remove it to prevent them pulling it over them etc Theyre not a necessity more an aesthetic x

Ill be using them. im side-car-ing a cotbed, and the gaps are gonna be too big so bumpers work.

I saw this too and wondered what to do!! Baby will be in moses basket in with me for a while then going into cot - not totally sure when this will be though but my friend has one in her cot for her 3 month old!!
