Are cot bumpers necessary? I've heard mixed reviews, some saying unsafe.

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks for asking this Frances. I did a google search and got really mixed opinions. Google can be scary sometimes!!!!!

i used cot bumpers with my daughter and had no problems! they just stop the baby banging there head on the wood i think! iv never really understood them but im planning on using them with this baby too x

We've got breathable ones that stretch round the side of the cot - they stop arms and legs sticking through the bars but you don't need to worry when your baby ends up sleeping with his or her face up against them. You need to make sure you get the right ones for your type of cot as they do different ones for solid end cots and ones with bars across the top and bottom.

If you google airwrap cot bumpers you'll find loads of places selling them :)

Thanks Sam's Mum, I was expecting them to be a bit pricey but nice surprise when I looked!!

I thought that too when I first tried to find them after a friend told me about them :lol:

Ive used them I was a bit hmmmm about it at first but I weaved the bumper around the cot (full sized one).

You can sort of see here;

I used them when Rosie got her arm stuck between the bars in her sleep - best thing I did. I was wary of using them at first due to reading stuff about newborns getting their faces up against them and not being able to breath etc.

I used one on Megans crib - again all the way round saying that I was more at ease with them because I use breathing monitors.

I've never used them but if my 6 month old refuses to sleep and rolls around the cot she can get her legs stuck so I may look into getting a breathable one. I won't be bothering with my next baby, not until they get stuck!

OH broke his leg in a cot a lil older maybe but Ive heard it happen before. *Yikes*

:(

I removed them fairly quick as my kids used them as steps to get out :doh:
