With Logan's due date being only 5 weeks away I've started to think about what I'll do about contraception once he's born.

OH wants me to be sterilised but there is no way I'd ever do that. I can't say 100% I'd never want another baby. Although there's no way OH would ever agree to a 3rd I'd like to know the options still there. You never know whats gonna happen in the future. OH is positive he doesn't want any more kids, it took a lot of convincing to get him to agree to a second.
I told OH if he wants such a permanent solution he can have the op himself, of course he doesn't want his bits cut around!

I might go for some type of long term contraception such as the implant. I have thought about another mirena coil but that made me loose my sex drive last time I had it.
I'm not keen on the pill cos I don't trust myself to remember to take it, I struggle remembering my pregnacare vitimin everyday!

Maybe I should just give OH a sex ban until he agrees to use condoms, I'm fed up that it's always me who has to mess with my body.

Anyone else thought about this yet? What are your plans?

I have!

One of my friends fell pregnant straight after having her first and even tho the close age gap is nice, I can see how she is struggling. I am super paranoid and have also been thinking about what to do.
I am allergic to latex so condoms are out of the question, have been on the pill but it messes with my head and had the multiload coil before falling preg but think it had something to do with me putting on a ton of weight (tho I could be wrong).
I was thinking of looking into that implant they insert into your upper arm...

I know what you mean - why should you be the one to do something about it. Men eh! You cant live with them and cant live without them
Seems like you have some compromising to do

I am thinking of having the patch, from what I have read it works in the same way as the combined pill - but you wear it for 7 days at a time, for 3 weeks, then have a week break.

I am really wary of more long term things as I had the injection a few yrs ago, had a bad reaction to it and was stuck with it for 3 months!

I was thinking about the implant too

But where do they put it in ect?

I cant take the pill and don't like the sound in the implant or injection because of the time length attached so I will be using persona machine. Bought it to help with TTC and also so I could use it afterwards as contraception.

my husband had the vesectomy in december and i really cant belive how easy it was, he was in and out of the clinic in 15 minutes and didnt have any swelling bruising or anything, he was in pain for about 2 hours after but he only needed paracetamol

I plan to abstain from sex until my cycle resumes as normal and then it's Natural Family Planning all the way for us. We used it successfully for five years before Connie came along so we will be using it again. As someone who's allergic to latex (mmm cystitis), can't take any kind of hormones (family history of breast cancer) AND to top it all off my cervix is too small for the diaphragm, I don't see that I have any other choice :wall:

I think it goes under the skin in your upper arm, they numb the area first and it's injected in. I think it's the size of a matchstick

With regards to being sterilised, thats a major major operation and one I'd really never want to consider unless there was a medical need.

I don't like the idea of the contraceptive injection as my GP told me it can take up to a year for your body to return to its normal state and be able to conceive and we hope to try for baby number 2 from when LO is about 6 months old.

After that we'll probably use condoms for a while and I may consider going on the pill again for a while but not long term.

i had the implant put in last week. i was so scared as im not very good with needles but it was fine and i would deffo have it done again! You have to see the nurse twice before you have it done to make sure you still want it, then you ring for an appointment when you come on. Otherwise i think they'll fit one 3 weeks after giving birth.

the doctor will lay you down on the bed with your arm behind your head. (they put in the arm you DONT write with)

then she cleans your arm and injects some local anaesthetic which stings a little but is nothing. She will wait about 3 mins for it to work, clean the area with iodine unless you're allergic then she'll use something else.then put the implant in with a slightly bigger hollow needle. it goes into your arm and you'll hear a 'click' which it the implant being released from the needle into your arm. None of this hurts, you can feel the needle in your arm and some tugging but doesnt hurt. When the needle is taken out you'll then be bandaged up for a day or so, then thats it for 3 years!

you might get a nice bruise like this: http://www.pregnancyforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=68399 but mine doesnt hurt!! hth xxx

Nice Bruise :D
Ouch!
I think I might go for that. I want to do some research first - do you know exactly what its called?? Is it just "The Implant"?

This is what happened to us. I was booked in for sterilisation as dh didnt want his bits cut around and we were using condoms as the pill doesnt agree with me (and still doesnt).

The day before I was due to be sterilised I found out that I was pg. It took a while to get used to the idea and then we were pleased and accepted that we would be having3 kids then I lost the baby at 10 and a half weeks.

Needless to say, dh is going for the op now and I will go and get sterilised eventually.

Luckily my OH and I can use condoms so this is the way we wil be going- can't take pill when breast feeding and as that is what I plan to do then that isn't an option- I presume it's the same for the implant? I would avoid the implant or injection at all costs personally as I have reacted VERY badly to a combined pill in the past- I couldn't bear the thought of the implant or injection messing with my mind like that pill did and know that I was stuck with it for AGES! I like the idea of using the persona kit- seems the nicest form of contraception as it involves no additional chemicals or hormones.

It's called Implanon :D

I'm lucky - we are going for the fingers crossed approach - cant take hormones due to migraines (during which I lose power in one side of my body like a ministroke) and dad had strokes at an early age, neither of us want to consider sterilisation as too permanent, hate condoms - havent fully explored diaphragm which may be an option but til then we'll take pot luck - had 3 years of no contraception before fell pregnant this time as to be honest 3 small children work well as a contraceptive plus the hours dh works - I say we are lucky cos I know if we did have an accident that would be fine by both of us even though we dont plan on having any more.

its called implanon xx

ive had implanon and it can cause extreme weight gain if your the type to gain weight with hormonal contraception like depo and pill etc.

i dont know what were going to use, male pill would be nice :rotfl:

I have no idea what i'm going to do. i always said i'd like my kids one after the other - but then again i said i'd start at about 26 (and i'm 20) so i'm not so sure about that plan!

I had the depo injection and it caused havoc with everything.
Condom? Latex allergy and i generally hate them anyway (the non-latex ones).

The pill, well it didn't work last time!!

I'm scared of the implant as i don't want a long-term thing and i really don't want any side affects like i've had from the pill and from the injection.

We might just wing it, fingers crossed breast feeding will act as a natural contraceptive whilst baby grows up a little and then who knows! Maybe another LO for us!

Though am thinking about depriving OH if necesary... Lol

I would love to go back on the combined pill again but obviously won't be able to when BF. Will think maybe about the progesterone only pill - has anyone tried it before? Will just have to be a bit more efficient at taking it, unlike the last batch of pills :rotfl:

I'm really reluctant to do something longer term like the injection or implant because it takes a while for it to wear off if I have a reaction to it. Will be condoms in the meantime, methinks.

We're gonna go back to using condoms, thats what we used before we started trying for this baba.

I dont like taking the pill as microgynon gave me headaches, so did dianette and cant be bothered trying another type of pill.

And when we decide to try for baby number 2 it may take a while for my cycles to return back to normal... It took my friend 18 months to get regular cycles again after taking the pill for 5 years.. She's just got her BFP tho thank god! xxx
