Girls is it ok to drink decaf coffee?! Couldn't start my day without a coffee & haven't had one now since my bfp! Really miss my morning coffee but don't want to drink it if it's going to affect my baby!

It's absolutely fine hon, don't worry!

You're allowed 200mg of caffeine a day. I stuck to two portions a day in tri 1, but then upped it up to 3 portions a day after that. Sometimes I sneakily have 4 portions, but only if I really need that extra coke at the end of the day!! Coffee is slightly higher than coke or tea, depending on where you get it, but if you substitute one portion for decaf then you're able to have another 2 portions of caffinated.

I used this list to give me a better idea of what I could have in a day: http://www.energyfiend.com/caffeine-content-uk-europe-drinks

Go drink that coffee!! xx

Hi hun,

As leesy says you are still allowed some caffeine.

Maybe you can decide which cup of coffee you enjoy most and have a "proper" coffee and then hit the decaff....

I don't drink fizzy drinks and went off tea so I've not had caffeine for months now

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm still trying to substitute as much decaff tea as I can, it doesn't taste that different when you get used to it, but it's coke that's my achilles heel! I just make sure it balances out so I don't go over the 200mg.

One thing that people might not realise though is that Diet Coke actually has more caffeine in it than regular... Just as well I'm a full fat person ;) xx

The only fizzy drink I used to have was diet coke yet when I read about the nasties in it I stopped!

I still have 3 cans in the fridge.

It is not just the caffeine but all the additives that are out in diet coke that make it a no-no when pregnant. In-fact I won't ever drink it again

xxxxxxxxxx

I drink decaf coffee and once a week as a treat on a Friday I have a Starbucks lol other than that I'll have 1 tea a day and just water x

Look at the link I posted and you'll be shocked at how much caffeine a Starbucks coffee contains...

A cup a day should be okay but a word of warning, you may suddenly go off your coffee/tea!

Silly bodies eh :p

Yeah its fine to have, just make sure you are drinking plenty of water too as tea and coffee are dieuretics x

It's the caffeine that's a dieuretic rather than the tea or coffee so as she is supplementing one cup for decaf that should be fine xx

As a huge tea addict (9+ cups a day isn't unknown!) it was my hardest thing to cut down on! I started whilst TTC and cut it down gradually until I was just having the one cup in the morning (i cant stand caffeiene free tea :x) De-caff coffee will be fine!
I treat myself to the occasional caffeine free diet coke now and drink lots of lemon tea so I get my hot drink craving and some bit c in one!
You'll get in to a routine but do it gradually or you might end up with some bad headaches!
