Have you given it up?

I want to but I'm sooo tired, not just a bit tired but cant seem to move, resting my head on the desk tired.

So I've cut down to one a day, first thing in the morning or I wouldnt get to work. In the afternoon I'm drinking lemon and ginger tea, which helps not only with the nausea but the ginger does give me a slight lift physically I think.

I just wondered what everyone else thought about coffee? Is it really evil? I dont want to put a foot wrong this time as terrified of another MC. I will give it up if you think I should, just need some advice and the internet disagrees with itself!

I don't drink coffee but do drink green tea, I've cut right back as caffeine is meant to be bad for baby, the recommended amount is 200mlg per day so that's about 2 cups not including other things with caffeine in. I have one in morning then sometimes one in afternoon, I did go off it for a few weeks though. You could make it weaker that's what I was doing so you still get a bit of a kick but can maybe have 3 weak cups! Watch for herbal teas as I've found some things can bring on early labour so should be avoided til the last few weeks, raspberry leaf and echinacea are the ones to avoid.

I have cut it out totally at home and at work and usually when I'm out as you can get decaf in most places now.

Every now and then though I will still have a full caffeine tea/coffee if I'm somewhere that I can't get decaf. And, every now and then I really fancy a Coke so may treat myself to one if we go out for lunch/dinner.

I think the odd one is ok but I had heard that caffeine can increase the changes of mc so I've tried to totally avoid it wherever possible.

I've drunk coffee all through my pregnancy...about 2 cups a day. Am due to give birth today and my baby is estimated to weigh 9lb so I don't think it's done me any harm!! xx

I read yesterday that about 3 cups of instant coffee a day should be your limit. I drink decaff at home and if I'm out somewhere I have a normal one. I don't drink tea (gone off it a year ago for some stupid reason) and I don't drink coke so caffeine isn't a real prob. Choc has a bit in it so they say not to go overboard with it either.

So in answer to your actual question :oooo: one per day should not do any harm x

I've cut it out but only because I can't stand the thought of milk and I don't like it black. On the odd occasion I've had a tea or a coffee, I've had de-caff.

I think you can have a couple of cups of coffee a day. Is it 200mg of caffeine we're 'allowed'?

3 cups of coffee a day is meant to be your limit, I've cut back have one normal cup and then a couple of cups of decaf....

Kxx

on the nhs website it tells you exactly what you can and can't drink and eat and it tells you how much coffee you can consume. i personally believe you need to be quite careful with it in early pregnancy! xx

I seem to be doing the same as most people here - cup of the real stuff in the morning to get going and then decaf for the rest of the day.... did the same for No#1 son. TBH unless your mainlining espresso all day long, I don't think a coffee here or there will hurt.

I didnt realise you couldnt have coffee, I drink 1 cup a day and about 5 cups of tea. I did the same with my last Pregnancy aswell.

Hi Ladies, I started to drink decaf coffee as soon as I found out I was pregnant ( but only 1 cup a day as I didn't feel like having more than that). But around 5th week I went off it completely as I didn't like the taste of coffee anymore.
Now I'm 9weeks and still not very keen on coffee so I'm having it on a very rare occasions.

Ive been on decaf since before my BFP simply because OH bought it and didnt tell me it was in the coffee canister! So, Ive stuck to it. I dont drink my daily diet coke anymore either and I have green tea or peppermint the rest of the day. However, Im so tired and angry with myself today I think Ill have 1 nice cup of normal coffee :)

I've totally cut caffeine out :) No tea or coffee for me, just plain old water and fruit juices.
I've also stopped drinking coke but I do have a sneaky half a glass once in a blue moon. I've also stopped drinking energy drinks.

I really don't want to risk anything and I think I've contaminated my little bean with enough coffee and energy drinks before I found out I was pregnant. I drank caffeine a lot! I am falling asleep everywhere now but I quite like the rest xxx

Lol, thanks girls. I asked my accupuncturist and he said better safe than sorry and to cut it completely so I have. Falling asleep all morning, and going to bed v early but maybe its for the best.

can you try with decaff? Just from a psychological point of view?

I read that decaff is really bad for you. That the process the coffee goes through to extract the caffine involves loads of chemicals, some of which are new and have been linked to cancer, so after reading that I thought best not to risk it. Of course the internet is full of crap so it might not be true

I gave caffine up since my mc, i was drinking red bush tea, but since i was about 6 weeks pregnant this time ive completely gone off all hot drinks, so all i every drink now is either water or fresh orange juice. I wondering whether I will start enjoying hot drinks again throughout my pregnancy or whether I will have to wait till baby is here x x
