Hi ladies
As the title suggests, I'm a bit of a coffee addict. Are there any other ladies like me? If so, how are you coping? Is there an alternative?
TIA

How do you find decaf? I'm not an addict really and a bit off it during pregnancy but decaf lavazza grounds work well in our machine and i also like decaf cheapy instant coffees. But then i don't drink coffee for the caffeine hit ...so i may be different. In fact caffeine has a horrible affect on me (feel unwell & extremely anxious) so i have finally learned to say no. I also have decaf tea wherever possible.

I believe decaf still contains some caffeine but obviously is an amount i personally can tolerate and i don't drink it frequently sp should be fine for my pregnancy.

Do you drink for the taste or for the caffeine?? Herbal teas\regular teas don't always cut it as i like the treat of a milky coffee.

Thanks for the reply.
I drink coffee for the taste. I've read that the chemical process of decaffeinating coffee is worse than drinking caffeinated coffee. I'll look into alternatives.

I love my coffee and tea!!! If I'm being honest I haven't changed my habits...apart from less tea as it seems to make my heartburn worse? In my first tri I was on decaf but suffered terrible headaches from the withdrawal. In second tri I decided to have a coffee when I'd meet up with friends. And now I still drink coffee when I fancy it even though I know I shouldn't as it's not recommended

Hi,

Are you referring to solvent based decaffeination? I don't think that's widely used anymore and it seems possible to find the process used by some of the major brands. I dont claim to know all the science or have all the facts but there's a few interesting reads out there as I agree you can't be too careful!!

Lavazza came up among one of the best tasting in an article I found (granted not a recent one) but anyway Lavazza use the C02 method for decaffeination which is not solvent based. I've read this claim too 'There are no residues or toxic by-products in this decaffeination method. In addition, CO2 is an organic substance of great purity, and in its supercritical state shows great promise as a replacement for toxic solvents across industries.' -https://lifespa.com/decaf-safe/

This also makes an interesting read about the various processes:

Anyway, if you prefer not to go the decaf route - I hope you can find a tasty alternative!

Thanks Mel. That was informative and reassuring
