Anybody got any experiences of taking citalopram whilst trying to get pregnant?

I got put on it alomost 4 weeks ago but we are now trying for baby number 2.

Shall I just stop? Carry on?

I've got another doc appt on Friday so will speak to her then too.

Women often take this in pregnancy. It's best to never just stop these types of medications and you need to look at risks and benefits including mental health implications, particularly when hormones are changing, pregnancy is such a big life event etc.

Def speak to your gp before making any decisions/stopping.

I'm taking sertraline which is another SSRI. It's really not good to stop cold turkey, you'd feel like hell and it could affect your mental health. Citalopram is commonly used in pregnancy. There's a very slight increased risk of heart defects, but only increasing by 1%. There's a slight risk of pulmonary hypotension in the third trimester, so you might want to reduce your dose or wean off at that point.

You definitely need to discuss it with your GP though. Good luck

I did discuss with my doc thanks ladies. All fine and she explained the less than 1% chance of respiratory problems. So still going with it. I would like to think by the time I get to the last trimester I'm ok without it.
