Hey everyone!

My baby's not even here yet, but I was wondering how old babies usually are when they're christened and when is the earliest?

Also, if anyone has any advice on how to go about it, I'd be v grateful.

Cheers x

Hiya,

You can get your bubs christened whenever you like. We haven't been too organised so will get Jamie done next year, he'll be about 10 months then.
A freind of mine had her daughter christened at 7 months & another friend had her two boys christened a few weeks ago, they are 4 and 6!

Just ring your local church & go from there. :D

I had my daughter done at 11 months, hoping to get my son done sometime early next yr

Rebecca was christened back in July and she was 6 months.

Thanks girls...................................

It's something I've always wanted to do but never knew how to go about it!

xxx

Where i live it was really easy i looked in yellow pages for the church i wanted sophie done at, then i rang the vicar i had to go along and tell him why i wanted sophie to be christned and tell him my godparents etc, booked a date and that was that.

Choose the godparents and the planned the day, which was wonderful.

I think the hardest thing i found was picking a dress for sophie i wanted a really special one, i will try and post a pic later on.

Braydon was 7 months and i just contacted the vicar and got it sorted that way

Ella was christened on sunday just gone 9 months old, along with myself and my sister, it was a really lovely day and fairly easy to organise!

A friend enquired about getting her daughter christened and the vicar refused to do it becuase niether of the parents were christened, and they had to attend church services for 3 months fbefore hand.
Needless to say they didnt bother

I was 3 months old when I was Christened, but Lydia was 8 months.

I'm Catholic, so Lydia was Christened as a Catholic also.
DH is nothing really, he's never been Christened, but the priest said it was okay as long as I raise her as a Catholic, take her to church, etc etc.

The way I had it done was firstly I phoned the priest.
Then he said I had to speak to this woman who organises the Christenings after church, so I found her and she gave me a form to fill in, stating my name, DH's name, Lydia's name, our address, plus the addresses and names of 2 godparents.

Now with it being a Catholic church, they are pretty strict about godparents.

The child can have either 1 or 2 godparents.
If there are 2, one must be male and one must be female.
At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic.
If one is not Catholic, they must at least be a practicing Christian (or any demonination). In this case they become not a godparent, but a Christian Witness.

So we chose my cousin Paul as godfather and my friend Amy as "godmother" (Christian Witness - she's C of E).

We also had to go through this other sheet, which asked questions like "how often do you go to church?" "do you reject satan?" "do you promise to raise your child as a Catholic and take her to church?" and all that sort of thing.

Then after that, for several weeks, DH and I had to attend meetings at the priest's house every Saturday night, along with other couples who wanted their children to be baptised, and we had to discuss the sacrament of baptism and watch all these videos about raising your child as a Catholic, and that kind of thing.

Then finally she was allowed to be baptised.

A lot of rigmarole if you ask me, but there we go lol.

ETA: it turned out to be a lovely day though :)

Thats why we never got Ewan christened - we thought we would let him decide if he wants to when he is older.
We only go to church once a year, and thats at christmas - because i play in a band and we do the carol service.

I had Dan christened at 5 weeks, Callum at a few hours in the hospital, and a blessing at Church when he came home, Charlotte was 5 months (we wanted to wait until she would fit into the family christening gown). We've yet to get Alex baptised. I've been questioning my own faith and rarely go to Church now (I used to go 3 times a week), so I'd feel hypocrytical(sp?) getting him baptised.

We're CofE, and our Church has pretty much the same procedures as Xena's. Most CofE churches are fairly relaxed though
