Can I ask the advice of mum's who have older kids? I am living in Denmark where it is very normal that babies go into daycare form 9 months to a year. Where I live there is only 12 spaces at the local nursery so all the other children go to someones home where another mum will look after 4 kids. I work from home but have cut down on my work so I don't work while looking after Leorah. Do you think 3 is too late for her to go into a nursery (every child from the age of 3 is guaranteed a nursery space)? Its just that I think if she is going to be around someones house being looked after by a mum she may as well be in her own house being looked after by her own mum. The government will give me money for about a year to look after my own child but some of the danes tell me that 3 is too late for her to go to daycare as she needs to learn social skills (actually most say 2 is too late). I will make the effort for her to go to playgroups and go to different places and experience different things but obviously I don't want to hold her back either. I just don't know what to do and she has to go on the list now. I didn't think children started seeing each other as people to play and interact with until the age of 3 anyway? Most danish women can't afford not to go back to work and the childcrae here is very cheap compared to the UK but me and my DH made the decision to lead a simple life so Leorah can grow up with her mum around rather than have lots of expensive toys. This is all giving me a headache, please advise :)

Goody! I saw my HV today and found out there is a playgroup in the next village 3 days a week for parents like me that want to be home with their kids but also want them to socialise :cheer: It's 3x a week from 9-1 and I only have to pay for my coffee! How fab is that?

She also told me when Leorah is 2 she can have regular lessons with a speech therapist as she will be learning english and danish. Honestly I might moan about living here sometimes but when it comes to children and childcare they are doing everything right! I think a household that earns less than £45,000 a year children get free childcare and if you earn over that its still only about £200 a month. Tony Blair should take note!!!

Wow that's cool- I feel tempted to move to Denmark!

Thats great to hear. Ellie thankfully loves nursery and loves watching the other babies and young children. When I dropped her off this morning she wasn't at all interested in watching me go, too interested in watching the other kids. So I do think the social interaction is a good idea, and that playgroup sounds the best of both worlds!
