I finally got my tax credits sorted and filed in all the forms my self, so i'm terrified i may have made a mistake... i got all the details back today and what they are paying seems like a lot of money to me.. plus with the 3 month back payment too
Should i put in to an account so that if there has been a mistake on mine or there side i can pay it back, and just forgett about the money?

How many of you have had problems?

Or am i just being a worrier - i had no help filling in the forms and my maths is terrrible i wanted our accountant to do it but hubby said he was too busy.

I dot want to end up owing loads of money.

I had loads of problems last year and went a few months without any payments. It made life really difficult and no amount of phonecalls would sort it out.

In the end I got a backdated payment of about £600. I've had my problems with them but mostly they're alright and to be honest Id be lost without them, they help loads :D

Have they not backdated you from when Ewan was one? or do they not go back that far as tax credits go down when they turn one years old.? If not you must have missed out on loads of money ! a whole years worth !
I finally got mine through when jamie was about 3/4 months old, i had a back payment of £760 something and OH had £650 something ! cant remember to be exact !

Im the same Kirsty tax credits do help loads, id be lost without them !

I have had nothing but trouble with them. We are trying to budget our money but they often will give us an extra payment mid week then drop out allowence to take back the overpayment. We lived for a year getting only £10 a week because they had over paid us but i was there fault in the first place. Everyone else i know seems to be getting big one off payments and more per week than us when we should be on maximum benefits anyway. OH went back to work a month ago and in that time they have dropped our money for 2 kids from £88 per week CTC to £79 and £64 WTC to £59 and we are actully worse off now than when he wasn't working. God knows what they will do when this next baby is born, we will probally get even less.

If you're getting loads, then bloody spend it quick!!

Seriously,if you are worried, then stick it in another account, but I'd be tempted to spend it. I don't know how people manage to get loads of money from them. We've got 2 kids, DH only earns £13k and we only get £92 per month!

i have been on at hubby to help me get them done since ewan was born, i eventually got the forms in january and gave them to hubby who said our accountant would do them, but he had to wait for something, i kept asking month on month, then in july hubby said accountant couldnt help and gave me the forms and tax reurns and i filled them in, they only back date for 3 months.

So i'm hoping ive filled them in properly, husband is self employed so its difficult to say how much he has earned, i thinkits based on his profiot over the yr. so as his business takes off i see the money decreasing.

They are no help to us. Cause me and OH both work full time we get just under £50 per month - which is no help to the £500 nursery fee's we pay! :x

If you go to the tax credits website it will work it out online for you what you should get, that could help you to double check, i'll find you the weblink hunnie

hun my oh is self employed and we seem to get quite a bit, you are right they work it out based on the actual profit they make for the year,so by the time you have taken off fuel costs and mobile bills and tools and everything else you can include you end up with quite a bit in tax credit :D xx

Thats one reason i dont work full time! child care fees would just eat up all my wages so there would be no point in me working any way!

Mine have been calculated working a 5 day week but I am going back 4 days plus my Dh wages have gone up slightly since we filled out the forms so I have put all the money into a seperate account so we don't spend it incase we owe any back! I have rang them to tell them but they can't do anything till I go back to work and know exactly what I will be picking up working 4 days. I am sure if your circumstances haven't changed since you filled out the forms you will be fine hun.

Xxx

they are a nightmare, they overpaid us £700 that just turned up in my account one day, i rang up straight away and i spoke to three different people and they all assured me the money was mine to spend, then come this tax year, they say they have overpaid me £700, and until they get the balance back we wont get any more tax credits, its going to take 14 months to pay back

Much the same here, overpaid by £700 and i am now paying it back at £30 a month :wall:

im a lucky one as im working 16 hours a week and a single parent it does me better to work just a shame it dont help people like KX i agree it needs sorting to help everyon e

They also overpaid me, and now, when we need the money the most, with a new baby and me not working the hours that I used to, we are repaying it a bit at a time.

Nightmare :(

They overpaid us so we went without getting any for a year (for OH other son), so we have now almost paid it back, then yesterday we got a letter saying we still owe it and they are taking legal action against us as we have ignored all their reminders  We haven't had any other letters about it and have almost paid it all back, I can't believe they sent us that. I can't even speak to them because as much as we call, we can't get through :x

we also got over paid by £698 which we're paying back slowly and to be honest i'm not sure how they worked out the overpayment but nevermind there's no arguing with the tax ppl!!

but we're sorted now and don't do to bad, luckily cos hubby gets paid monthly the tax credits n child benefit is just enough to cover food shoppin n electric each week :) so least we're stayin a float
