CBT for PND

Just wanted to hear from anyone who has used CBT for PND.

I have previously used CBT for depression, but that was years ago. I am a few sessions in at the moment but not sure it is helping. I'm also on anti-depressants. Just hoping to hear some positive stories...

I can't say I have any specific experience, but if CBT has worked for you in the past, I'd say that's a good indication that you'll respond well to it now too. It'll take more than a few sessions before you start to see any benefits. Try to stick with it and then you'll have the best of both worlds - your medication and the CBT to help get you through it. Really hope things start looking up for you xxx
 
I found CBT really beneficial and its left me feeling more confident that i'll be able to cope with baby no.2. For me its been a life changing experience and i feel more in control of my depression than i ever have (lived with it my whole life). I hope you find the support you need.X
 
I had cbt for my OCD and it was fantastic! Please stick with it, I know it's a lot of effort to keep up with as you're constantly battling your own natural thoughts, it's really worth it though!

I'm currently more than half way through a ten week course of CBT (but for anxiety/OCD) and it's not really helping me. I really think that it works for some and not for others :)

Can you change you're therapist? You might not be suited to each other and it would be a real shame if it didn't work for you... Mine was for exactly the same -anxiety and OCD and worked fantastically, it changed my life for a while! It doesn't cure you but gives you excellent coping strategies. I'm starting some top up sessions next week because I've slipped into my old ways again but I'm confident I can get back on track!

You don't have to tell the therapist they don't work for you, you can go above them and ask their manager if you can swap. Don't be scared to tell them Its not working for you xxx

I get on really well with the therapist, he's great. It's just that I don't think I have the right mindset for CBT to be effective. It's like my anxious mind can see right through it and isn't fooled by it iykwim.

I feel like that sometimes. My brain never stops. Every time I have to think of a reason against a negative thought I come up with another 5 for it until I've gone round in a neverending circle. I know it's a skill to learn but it's so bloody hard.
