Hi mummies :-)

I have seen that they have changed the law and children up to 15 months have to be in rear facing car seats now. Does that mean I have to buy my daughter a new one? Xx

No it's being phased in over 5 years starting with isofix bases. Belted seats not affected yet

Oh Ok, I just read aswell that it says 9kg to 15kg can be front or rear facin.

Thank you hun xx

It's rear facing or in an Isize car seat. :) check out the gov website they article is on there x

When you look at medical guidance and safety tests is preferable to keep them rear facing as long as possible. But legally you can turn them round at 9kg or 9 months at the moment.

Also I think if you've already bought one you're allowed to keep using it until the baby outgrows it, so as not to make people buy a new one when they've already moved to forward facing.

That's what I was worrying about as I brought my little girl a forward facing one in January and now with another baby on the way I haven't got 100-200 to spend on another car seat for her xx

The parentdish article is a couple of years old and has some errors in, there’s a more up-to-date one but I can't link from my phone, will try to find it later.

The things I have read suggest that at the moment it is (sadly) still legal to forward face a baby as soon as they hit 9kg, regardless of age UNLESS you have bought an isize car seat in which case you must use it rear facing until 15 months. From 2018 it will be illegal to sell non-isize car seats, but I think it will still be legal to use them for a while (in the same way that R44.03 is currently legal to use but not sell).

There's a Facebook group called "Car seat advice for Mummies and Daddies!" which is very useful if you need help or advice with any kind of car seat :)

If you buy into the isize then you have to rear face until 15 months at least. But you don't have to as many cars dont even have isofix! You car forward face so long as your baby is 9kg and confidently sit unaided. 9 months is just a rough age it's the weight that is important. I got the 2way maxi cosy base but put my son forward facing at 12months so I can use the base for 2nd baby x
