So my son has just turned four and my daughter is due tomorrow.. I don't know why it had only just started to panic me but I'm wondering, once my partner goes back to work how I'm supposed to get anything done as I can't leave my son and baby in a room on there own or unsupervised in anyway? My son is a typical boy.. Obsessed at the moment with "fighting" with his toy lightsabers and swords etc.. He loves running, jumping and throwing things around and hardly ever sits down.. My flat isn't that big so when I need to go toilet or cook dinner or whatever will I have to take the baby chair with me everywhere? I've thought about baby carriers but I'm really don't want her to get used to sleeping on me as my son did as it caused so many sleep problems in the long run... How do you all get around it? Thanks in advance :)

Have you got a chair/bouncer you can sit her in when you’re cooking etc?

My son was 4 and to be honest I didn't really worry about it too much, as felt he was old enough to understand. He knew to be careful around the baby and I left them in the room lots of times together, in fact he sometimes 'watched' the baby for me whilst I went upstairs to do something for 5 minutes or so and would shout up if he started crying. Maybe just explain to him about being careful and not let him have swords etc in the living areas and say they need to be played with in his bedroom? It's a bit like lego when baby gets bigger, we just had to keep it in our older sons room until the 2nd was old enough not to worry about it.

Thanks that's really helpful, she arrived a couple of days ago and I'm starting to see how I'm going to work it.. While she's sleeping it might be easier for me to get four yo to come with me fron room to room while I'm doing bits and pieces instead if carrying her around.. And making the most of bathroom in the morning which I'd the only time my son stays in one place, to get ready myself etc.. So there's light at the end of the tunnel! I'm enjoying the extra workload to be honest, the hours seem to fly by as I've always got stuff to do :) getting out the house to nursery when my oh is back at work will be a military operation though
