We registered for housing and we can't bid until I am 20 weeks pregnant when i have my MATB1 form, if we do it now we can only bid for a one bed house which is too small and they said they dont transfer you so once im 20 week we can bid for two bed houses.

Everyone says its really hard to get a house on the council and now i'm worried because we wont have aslong to find one as we need one before or by the time baby is here or i'll have to temporarily move in with my mum sharing a room with my little sister and the baby while my fiance is living with his parents and not with his baby.

:/

Sorry to dissapoint but when LO is here they won't nessacerily give you a 2 bed property. LO can share with you til they're 1, so chances are you will still get a 1bed.

Best bet is to go private hun. My housing told me this. Also wouldn't you rather have your own one bed for a while hun. I can't bid on three bed ones even though i have two boys x

I've heard a few people say this too. They can put you in a 1 bed until your baby is a year old x

Having a baby will probably not get you a 2 bedroom i'm afraid. They will give you points and tell you that you are eligibale to bid on 2 bed properties BUT in realtiy you wont have enough points to actually be considered for any of them!
That is what happened to me, and even when my LO turned 1 this still made no difference to my circumstances. I am now expecting baby no2 and am still stuck in a 1 bed flat - we have also been advised to rent privately which is what we plan on doing in the next few months and hopefully will find somewhere and move before baby arrives
Good luck bidding :)

just what the other ladies have said, also you don't generally get your matb1 till 24weeks

Using tapatalk so excuse the typos!

Then why have they said on the phone to me that a 1 bed house isnt big enough so no point bidding yet?

If we go private we would need upfront rent/deposit which we can't afford also private renting is more expensive and if we went private I wouldnt be able to get a job on a good enough wage to get us by.

I'm sure you can bid but wont be top of the list, the people with a baby over a year old will prob get priority! I've got two children and I'm on my own and I've got 5 years wait before I even get a sniff of a place :( sorry to disappoint x

Yep, like I said they will give you some points and tell you are eligible to bid on 2 bed properties but you wont actually have enough points to realistically be considered for one

Just to add, i am currently in band 2 on our council list, waiting for a 3 bed as I have a boy and girl with a 12 year age gap, but as of April 2013, it's changing so that babies under 2 years, share with their parents :( you will be better off bidding on a one bed house and then joining an exchange website (homeswapper) is one, and look for a swap, which is what I am currently doing. They may have told you that you will be eligible to bid on 2 beds, but like the other girls have said, you won't be very high up in the band. It can take months and months to get anywhere with the council, so you really would be better off bidding on a one bed and then swapping. Good luck.x

The criteria is different for every local housing authority.

Where I am, baby would get own room from birth but most LHAs would give a one bed till a year.

I'm sure you are expected to pay some sort of deposit with the LHA, I think this was mentioned when we tried to apply x
