Those of you with still small babies, can you put them down awake and they settle themselves or do you need hug/feed them to sleep?

I put Owens mobile on and he listens to it and Is 9 times out of 10 sleep by the time the songs finished. ( I can't see how old ur bubba is so sorry if I'm talking older lol)

I normally cuddle him or he falls asleep feeding. He settles himself in pram or car though

I'd love to rock Poppy to sleep in my arms, but if she's with me, she fights sleep SO much! She just wants to see me and keep smiling and playing, and consequently gets overtired and whingey, which is why we just put her in her cot every night whilst she's still awake. She's usually asleep within ten minutes of putting her in there, as there's no people to play with and look at!

Sorry, Jax is 4 weeks old. He will settle in car or buggy but not in his Moses basket. I've tried just putting him down but he ends up flailing his arms around and after 10 mins is crying and needs to be picked up and soothed. Sometimes even when he sound asleep he'll wake up after 5 mins and need soothing again

We put Freya in and sort of shush her to sleep! (in a nice way not Ssssssh lol)....this is enough to make her go off on her own and she's usually asleep within 10 mins xx

Try swaddling him, it will make him feel lovely and secure :)

I had this problem with Grace, it was suggested to me that it might be because she's going from the warmth of your arms into the coolness of the crib, i've started putting a warm wheat bag in her crib for 5 minutes or so then take it out and lie her down. Does seem to work :) x x

Yes of course you can put them down in the cot awake!! Obviously you shouldn't leave your baby crying but if he sleeps by himself, its all the better - as it will be easier for you to get him to sleep when he's a bit older. I put kayden down wether he is sleeping or not, if he grumbles I leave him for a few mins if he crys I pick him up & settle him in my arms. He looks around for the mobile when its on, but it doesn't stop him crying.

:)

i used to so he got used to going to sleep by himself! We used to sit on his blanket while feeding so it had our warmth and smell on it but a musical lightshow is fantastic!! now lo's older he turns it on when he wants it and goes back off to sleep!

Ezzie still will only settle with cuddles and a bottle it's a pain but she never liked her cot or a moses basket. xXx

We rocked, soothed, slung Jasper to sleep until he was about 11months and then started putting him down with a bottle and letting him settle himself.

it was more important to us that he had a good relationship and memory of falling asleep, than he was asleep quickly IFSWIM x

yep, I sometimes put my lo awake in his crib, and he goes to sleep on his own... If he cries I come and pick him up, but often he will just lie there making little noises, and then falls asleep happily :)

Theres absolutely no harm at all, if they are not crying. If they are crying its a different story.
