Hi ladies

I was wondering if anyone can help please? We have been ttc for 12 months now and ntnp for 2 years prior to this as well. I'm 31 and hubby is 33 neither of us have children. Last month we started fertility investigations and on cd21 I had my progesterone, fsh and LH checked ( wrong dates I know as I only ovulated cd20 on a 34 day cycle but my gp insisted itvwas then.) anyway my progesterone then was 10.8 fsh 6.7 LH 8.2

I had the progesterone reppeated at 7 dpo and it was 29.5 which I was advised is reassuring for ovulation

I then had prolactin, fsh Lh and thyroid levels checked on cd3 this cycle. my gp phoned and really upset me she told me my fsh wad raised at 12.4 and that meant either my ovaries are packing up or I'm premenopausal! I was devestated! She said I wont qualify for ivf with this as its above 10.

My prolactin was 166
Fsh 12.4
LH 4.9
Progesterone 2.1
Thyroid function is normal.

I am seeing the fertility specialist in early November but have no idea what to expect and was wondering what your experienced thoughts are on these results and what you think they'll say? I've no doubt I will be repeating these tests and am considering getting the bloods done cd1 or 2 so that fsh is lower as there's no way I can afford to fund ivf if we need it. I've read alot and it doesn't seem that high to me? Any thoughts are greatfully recoeved and I'm sorry for such a long post

Thank you in advance

Fiona

So sorry you feel down and I understand how stressful all this can be. I am 37 so have the age thing to worry about..

I am no expert but can the FSH have been tested on the wrong day? Worth re-testing for sure. I would also have a scan to check follicles as well as AMH tested ( amh is considered more accurate than FSH by some doctors ).

Either way I have heard of other ladies having raised FSH that get pregnant so its definitely not hopeless! Don't let the nurse get you down.

When you say qualify for IVF, do you mean on NHS?

xx

Thank you Maria I meant on the NHS I've been told it needs to be less than 10, how would they know what test day was unless I told them?

True, I see now you did the test day 3 which I think is correct.

But don't get to upset, I know people with higher FSH that get pregnant. I think you need to have it done again and also try to have a scan and amh done.

I know it is expensive but perhaps worth going privately for a scan and amh if you want to know soon since NHS takes longer sometimes. an AMH blood test I think can be done for 50 pounds privately.

Its a number and since you are still ovulating there are eggs left! Try not to worry too much x

Hi hun. My FSH was raised but I had my AMH tested for a more accurate result. That came back fine and we are having IVF next month. :-) I strongly recommend getting your AMH tested. I hope this provides some reassurance. X

Don't give up on it, my fsh was 60 got it down to 30 myself. I'm now 34. I now have a beautiful 4 month daughter and fell naturally on the back of a cancelled IVF cycle. I recently posted a load of stuff to someone else in same situation. I'll add the link x

Ahh Thank you Lucy I saw that and its all very encouraging congratulations on your little girl.

I keep reading that the lh is significant but I don't understan enough about it, I'm just hoping if I need any treatment they will give it to me and also iui is available on the nhs near me but not sure if that would help as o don't know really what is involved

Higher FSH doesn't mean your ovaries are packing up, it just means your body is finding it a little harder. Maybe try agnus castus and wheatgrass to lower FSH for repeat tests to see if that will make you eligible for IVF on NHS, they may be strict and go by the highest result but could be worth a try. Definitely ask about having AMH tested and a scan in first few days of cycle to check your antral follicle count. I have high FSH btw and low AMH so I know how you're feeling, when I found out about the FSH I spent an endless amount of time googling and drove myself mad xx

Yes it's worth doing what you can to get it down naturally then ask for a retest. I managed to half mine in a month. The doctors are cruel as the way they break it to us can be soul destroying. I don't know why they can't just say our ovaries are struggling rather than packing up. I was told iui won't make any difference. I only had it in one of my private cycles as my body fought against the drugs and ovulated so to not waste that cycle we converted at the last minute.
